Modi first became the head of government in Gujarat on October 7, 2001. He said that when he entered the administration of the state, he faced challenges like the aftermath of major disasters – the 2001 earthquake, super cyclone and drought – as well as “Congress misrule”.
He said the Congress had spread “loot, communalism and casteism” but the government was “dominated by Jana Shakti” who built Gujarat and “pushed new progress”.
“When I was the CM, Gujarat faced many challenges – the 2001 Kutch Earthquake, the previous Super Cyclone, the massive drought, and the legacy of decades of Congress rule like looting, communalism and casteism. Under the leadership of Jana Shakti, we built Gujarat and raised new developments , even in a sector like agriculture, which the country is not traditionally known for,” he wrote in the post.
He claimed that during his 13 years in office Gujarat emerged as a “shining example sabka saath sabka vikas“and, because of this, India blessed his party with a “record mandate” in 2014.
“During my 13 years as Chief Minister, Gujarat emerged as a shining example of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ which ensured prosperity for all sections of society. In 2014, the people of India blessed my Party with a record mandate, allowing me to become the Prime Minister. This is a historic moment, because it marks the first time in 30 years that the party has achieved a majority,” he said.
‘There’s still more to do’
Modi said that the government at the Center under his leadership has overcome some challenges, “there is still work to be done” and he will “continue to work tirelessly”. Noting India’s achievements, he claimed that the country had now been “liberated from the clutches of poverty”.
He said that India is now the fifth largest economy, and is making progress in the MSME and start-up sector, while new avenues are being opened for farmers, women, youth and the marginalized – the four main sections of society that the BJP is targeting. He added that the country is also working to address global challenges such as climate change and better health care.
“India’s development strides have ensured that our country is viewed with optimism around the world. The world wants to engage with us, invest in our people and be a part of our success. At the same time, India is working extensively to address global challenges, namely change- climate change, improving health, realizing the SDGs and more,” he said.
He added: “A lot has been achieved over the years, but much remains to be done. The learning of these 23 years has allowed us to create pioneering initiatives that have an impact nationally and globally. I assure my fellow Indians that I will continue to work tirelessly, with more zeal to serve the people.I will not rest until our collective goal of Viksit Bharat is fulfilled.
