The same or more
It looks like we’ll be unveiling the PS5 Pro in September, judging by all the talk about the new State of Play. If it’s not announced next month, then I don’t see it coming out this year, and that’s not what I’ve heard.
I don’t have a PlayStation 5 yet so I’m looking to get the Pro but obviously the price is a concern. The PS4 Pro is £110 more than the original, so it would be £560 if it were the same as the PS5 Pro. And, let’s face it, it will probably add even more than that.
I just don’t know if I can justify that much money. I wouldn’t imagine I’m thinking of just skipping a generation, but I think those who say it’s better to wait for the PlayStation 6 might be right. All money and no new game out to play in. I don’t want this to be another PlayStation VR2 situation.

Stick or join
Can’t argue with your Concord review. It’s not a bad game but there’s just nothing memorable about it and after playing as every character in the beta I very quickly lost interest.
The problem for Sony, and any company in this position, is that it’s hard to know whether to just throw it away or try and revive it with a revamp and new content. We’ve had it happen several times in the past, but I don’t see even a flicker of interest among most people.
The number of people playing on Steam is rarely more than 200 and it will make it very difficult to get a game if you want it, which is obviously a problem for multiplayer games.

A risky proposition
I’m not at all surprised to see people getting mad at Phil Spencer. I think it’s not a case of what they say but the fact that they keep changing their story. He never admits it and it’s like he just assumes we’ll forget what he said last time when he replaces it with something new.
He should have learned to shut up years ago and no one cared. Who are the current bosses of PlayStation and Nintendo? I don’t know and since he doesn’t constantly put his foot in his mouth, I certainly won’t.
Hyping yourself as a gamer, like anyone else, is always a risky proposition, but combine that with his less-than-trustworthy reputation and I certainly wouldn’t be upset if I never heard from him again.

Classic inspiration
Despite loving Persona 5, I haven’t looked into Metaphora: ReFantazio (terrible name, Atlus) but the images in your preview are incredible. The bosses look crazy, especially the Hieronymus Bosch one (please correct my spelling, GC).
I’ve never seen anything like it in a video game and it’s great. Suddenly I wish other games were more imaginative with their influences. I seem to remember one of the Mario games having a level based on Van Gogh’s artwork but that’s about it.
I have never understood why there is no more classical music in the game too, considering it is royalty free and very well known. It will be used in movies and TV all the time, so why not games?

Friend or foe?
Reading the pushback Phil got from that tweet the other day, I couldn’t help but wonder what his legacy would be. It’s probably going to be more complicated than Don Mattrick, with loyal Xbox owners seeing him as a traitor while PlayStation 5 owners such as myself see him as a hero, saving us from the garbage of Sony’s direct service. I also wonder where Microsoft stands on the old Xbox 360 and even OG Xbox titles coming to the PlayStation 5.
Whatever happens, we’re rooting for you Phil (at least from the PlayStation 5 side of the fence!)

The human factor
Hearing about the confusing background at Bungie, when it comes to Marathon, I just don’t see any developers lasting years. Destiny 2 has been a hit in terms of popularity and I don’t see anyone excited about Marathon. There’s nothing about the graphics or the concept that looks in any way interesting or exciting, as far as I’m concerned.
I know people are hoping that Concord’s failure means Sony is giving up on the direct services game but you have to think about the human cost. Who knows what will happen to developers Concord and Bungie will lead to hundreds of layoffs.
Not that anyone here has a problem but I find it all very depressing. If I were Bungie and I was going to make a second life service game, I wouldn’t make another first person shooter. I don’t see anything in Marathon that can’t be in Destiny 2. If you just make a new mode, you don’t have to worry about releasing a new game and can bring some visitors that you need for Destiny 2.
Where are all the racing games live action games, or platformers or adventure games or strategy games? If it’s free and good quality, I’d say it has a fair chance of getting somewhere, but all we do is new shooters, always trying to get the same players and never being able to differentiate ourselves.
Companies need to stop thinking about being the next Fortnite and need to expand their horizons more than they already are.

Solid choice
Thanks for the Metal Gear Solid Delta preview. Very good, although the size of the codec text worries me.
Did you notice that there is an option to make the text bigger, because it appears to be half its original size. Don’t know why so many modern games do this, Elden Ring is the new offender.

GC: It wasn’t a problem for us, but many options, including performance mode, weren’t available, so we couldn’t test them.
Rejection of the Power Stone
I can’t believe Capcom Fighting Collection 2 isn’t coming to Xbox. Rival School 2 is one of my favorites. The same goes for Power Stone 2.
I already have the first Capcom Battle Collection on Xbox Series X and S and have another collection of fighters from Capcom like the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection and the one that has all the roaming beat ’em-ups (sorry, forgot the exact name). (Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle – GC)
Is it the MT Framework again? because if it doesn’t prevent the release before coming to Xbox Series X/S.
Xbox Series X/S is my platform of choice. I’m heavily invested in the ecosystem, with over 800 purchases across three generations and have even preordered the 2TB special edition Xbox Series X, as I’m desperate for storage space. (I already have a 2TB Seagate expansion card installed but I still don’t have enough storage space to download games like Space Marine 2 and Indy, but more specifically Call of duty: Black Ops 6.) Buy the latest Mortal Kombat 1. life is more than 140GB.
All this negativity on the Xbox concerns me, but I have no interest in what the PlayStation 5 has to offer for various reasons. My last PlayStation purchase was a PlayStation 3 over ten years ago. And the Switch can’t power the games I want.
I also get a lot of excitement from my collection of games, so I’m happy with the other platform options from Microsoft that don’t seem to be able to hold everything behind the scenes.

GC: It’s MT Framework, yes. Of course Microsoft is trying to improve compatibility, so maybe it will get a delayed release on Xbox.
Inbox well-rans
Croc makes a comeback sure it’s a thing, but is there really a demand for it? If it wasn’t successful then, why now? Same goes for Epic Mickey. Looks like they’re starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel.
Loadstone
It’s pretty clear that Sony has given up on the idea of supporting PlayStation VR2. If even Astro Bot will not have, after the amazing Robot Rescue, I do not see them ever return to. What a waste of money.
