The Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise has now reached three films. How does it feel to take the franchise higher in each division?
I feel overwhelmed and humbled to take this franchise always a notch higher. Every time there are big challenges, but we as a team have been able to achieve our goals every time. Rooh Baba has its own fan base now across the age group. It’s fun to be part of the world of BB where we always try to surprise the audience and also entertain.
Who had the idea to bring OG Manjulika back? How was it working with Vidya Balan?
Getting Vidya back as Manjulika is an amazing idea by the makers. His energy as a Manjulika is unparalleled. I had a blast shooting with him. He has this infectious laugh. It feels like reuniting with my college friends. We had a blast on set. Sharing the screen with him is unforgettable. I hope we can work together.
How is Madhuri Dixit Nene an actor on set? How does the relationship feel?
Mrs. Madhuri is an absolute legend, and sharing screen space with her is surreal. She is incredibly graceful, not only in her dancing but in everything she does on set. He has a warmth and energy that immediately puts everyone at ease. I have learned a lot from him, especially about staying grounded and enjoying every moment on set. Working with him was like a dream, and he brought that positivity to the set.
Your dance moves take center stage again; how many days did you take the title track in, and how did the collab with Pitbull and Diljit happen?
Bringing the headlines back to life is so much fun! This time we have a new hook step ‘Spooky Slide’ which immediately went viral and the most interesting fact is that we made this hook step in the set. It’s not part of the choreography we’re rehearsing. We shot the song for about three or four days, but it felt so energetic that time just flew by. Also, the track this time has become a lot of additions to it despite the non-stop rehearsals, the energy never dips. The collaboration with Pitbull and Diljit was amazing, and it all came together organically. Both artists bring a unique vibe, and I’m excited to match that energy. The fusion really gives the track an international feel, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
How does it feel to deliver a blockbuster at a time when audiences seem to have become selective?
Has Kartik Aaryan changed his mind after delivering a 200 crore film?
To be honest I am even more focused on choosing the right script and challenging myself to bring something fresh with each film. With each milestone, my commitment deepens, and I’m eager to explore new genres, new characters, and new ways of telling stories.
What was on your mind pre-release and post-release? You are known for your strong film promotions these days…
Pre-release, it’s all about excitement mixed with nervousness. You wonder how your audience will respond to what you have poured your heart into. After the release, it was a mixture of gratitude and learning. I listen carefully to what my fans and critics say because it helps me grow as an actor. But at the end of the day, if the audience has enjoyed the film, it is a great relief and its own reward. I believe promotion is an integral part of filmmaking and that’s why I also try to give two hundred percent. For BB3, we traveled to 12-13 cities in the country. I love meeting, connecting and interacting with my fans.
Tell us about your first collaboration with Anurag Basu. He has a unique style of filmmaking. What can we expect from this new jodi?
Basu da is one filmmaker we have been waiting to collaborate with. I was excited to get on the set of the film and learn from him. The film will be a musical romantic journey with all the depth and emotion. I can’t wait for everyone to see what the team has created.
2024 has been amazing for you – acclaimed films like Chandu Champion and then box office winners like Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Looks like you have planned it right.
(laughs) It might look like this, but it’s not like that. I believe jo hona hota hai, vo hota hai. But yes, looking back – it was indeed a year to remember. I love Chandu Champion, even when I was touring for BB3 around the country, people kept talking about Chandu Champion, especially children. The film has touched the hearts of people and has succeeded in its aim of inspiring people. BB3 has been a historic success for me and the team. What more could you ask for!
You have been working continuously for two and a half years and it is paying off. Now you need to plan your break.
I like to rest, but to be honest, I’m a working person so I get bored when I’m not working. I’m always happy on set and around the team. While talking to you, I remember that Last break, I took the post of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and it’s been a long time. Let’s see! I think I should treat myself and go on a solo trip (Laughs).
