A Justice Department lawyer has been caught admitting in an undercover video that the FDA’s campaign against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 was not only misguided but also an overreach of its authority.
In December 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a stern warning to Americans: “Do not use animal medicines for yourself or others. Animal ivermectin products are very different from those approved for humans. The use of animal ivermectin to prevent or treating COVID-19 in humans is dangerous.
This statement, which occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, was not only controversial but also highly flawed, as the FDA had previously praised the drug in other contexts.
Ivermectin, a drug that has been used safely in humans since 1966, has been criticized by the FDA during the pandemic, despite its previous success in treating various diseases and was even given to African migrants by the agency in 2015.
However, in the face of increasing evidence – 105 controlled studies show a 61% lower risk in early treatment of COVID-19 – the FDA remains in the wrong position, interested in promoting its agenda rather than protecting public health.
A brave group of doctors, unwilling to be silenced, filed a federal lawsuit against the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the FDA, challenging their illegal efforts to block the use of ivermectin to treat COVID-19.
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Southern District of Texas in Galveston, contends that the FDA overstepped its authority and unfairly interfered with medical practice.
Among the plaintiffs are Dr. Mary Talley Bowden, Paul E. Marik, and Robert L. Apter, who accused the FDA of launching a misinformation campaign. The doctor insisted that while the FDA had approved ivermectin for human use before the pandemic, the agency suddenly spread falsehoods about its safety when COVID-19 struck.
This shift in narrative, they say, is part of a broader strategy to push unproven vaccines while reducing effective treatments.
During the court proceedings, FDA lawyers surprisingly admitted that the agency’s recommendation against Ivermectin was only advisory and not mandatory when it told people to “stop” taking Ivermectin for COVID-19.
Isaac Belfer, an attorney representing the FDA, said, “The quoted statement is not a directive,” said Isaac Belfer, one of the attorneys. “They do not command. They recommend. He said that what party should do. He said, for example, why you shouldn’t take ivermectin to treat COVID-19. They don’t say if you don’t do it, you shouldn’t do it. They didn’t say it was forbidden or illegal. He also did not say that doctors may not prescribe ivermectin.
“They use informal language, that’s right… It’s a conversation but it’s not mandatory,” he continued.
The lawsuit resulted in a significant victory for doctors, with the FDA forced to remove social media posts and consumer advice about the use of ivermectin for COVID-19.
Despite this legal setback, the damage has been done, with pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions, insurance companies denying coverage, and doctors facing professional consequences for prescribing the drug.
Dr. Bowden, who was forced to resign from Houston Methodist Hospital, expressed the broader implications of the case, saying, “One of the things this case does is set a precedent. I think it permanently tarnished the reputation of the FDA. I think the public will take the FDA a little less seriously now, and it is so that they make bold, reckless movements in the future when explaining to patients what they can and cannot do.
Belfer, caught on secret camera by Project Veritas, admitted that the FDA’s actions were an overreach.
“So, what the agency is doing… (it) is undeniably beyond its authority. Making drug recommendations about what to drink or not is the practice of medicine. And the FDA cannot practice medicine,” Belfer told Project Veritas.
“I think going forward (the FDA) might be more careful. They (doctors) got a good opinion for them. The FDA’s authority is limited. It’s not okay to… actually tell people, ‘You shouldn’t take this drug,'” ” he added.
More from Project Veritas:
Drs Apter and Bowden told Project Veritas that ivermectin suppression is causing a prolonged pandemic, and possibly millions of excess COVID deaths.
Apter: “It is not unreasonable to think that there are a million unnecessary deaths from COVID in the United States because of the suppression of public health agencies on effective early treatment with cheap drugs.”
Bowden: “If more people have access to early treatment in the form of ivermectin, monoclonal antibodies, hydroxychloroquine…
