From THE DAILY SKEPTIC
by Chris Morrison
Earlier this month, the Met Office stated that climate change was causing “a dramatic increase in the frequency of temperature extremes and the number of temperature records in the UK”. Given what is now known from recent freedom of information (FOI) revelations about the state of the ‘junk’ national temperature measurement network, it is hard to see how the Met Office can publish such a statement and keep it straight.
The claim is a key finding in the operation’s latest UK climate report and is said to be based on “observations from a network of UK weather stations, using data going back to 19.Th Century to provide a long-term context. This will be a network in which almost eight out of 10 stations considered by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have an ‘uncertainty’ – that is, a potential error – between 2-5 ° C. The same waste stations that provide a daily temperature ‘record’ are often in the same place, such as the hot furnace of the city is Heathrow airport. The same measurement of waste is used by the Met Office to claim measurements collected up to one hundred degrees centigrade.
The WMO rates weather stations with unnatural or near-natural temperature corruption rates. Classes 4 and 5 have a corruption probability of 2°C and 5°C respectively and this is the majority of Met Office sites. The WMO advises that Class 5 cannot be used to provide accurate measurements of nearby air temperatures, but almost a third of Met Office sites are classified in this super waste category. Only classes 1 and 2 have no uncertainty and only these should be used for serious scientific observational work. However, inexplicably, the Met Office has several sites that are not damaged. More worryingly, there seems to be no sign of increasing the number of genuine sites.
The encroachment of human heat and the city is a problem, with extreme cases found at the airport, which can add many degrees of warmth to the overall record. But this has been known for some time, and it is a mystery why the Met Office has not done anything about it. Recent FOI disclosures show that more than eight in 10 of the 113 stations opened in the last 30 years are in waste classes 4 and 5. Worse, 81% of stations opened in the last 10 years are waste, as are eight out of 13 new sites. in the last five years.
It’s as if the Met Office is actively seeking higher readings in order to experience ongoing weather disasters in the interest of promoting Net Zero. Whatever the reason – incompetence or political messaging – serious science will appear to be the loser. As it is currently set up, the Met Office network cannot provide a real guide to natural air temperatures across the UK. Using the data to calculate global temperatures is problematic.
Of course, the Met Office can rely on helpful messengers in the mainstream media to keep their breath away from the growing scientific scandal. Net Zero central board fear-mongering rising temperatures and claims that ‘extreme’ weather is on the rise. Temperatures have risen slightly over the past 200 years since the mini-ice ages, hints of a pleasant rebound for all to see. But this is not enough to force Net Zero madness on humans, so good climate models and bloated temperature databases are also needed. The compliant media are not interested, but cynicism and outright contempt for the Met Office’s temperature antics is growing. The Met Office regularly posts on X and is unaware that many of the replies are less than complimentary. Last week, it announced the “warmest day of the year” based on measurements taken at Heathrow. Here are some of the more polite comments we received:
What is it about the LHR that makes it hotter than the surrounding area? I’ll give you a hint – concrete exhaust and hot jets?
The actual temperature should be taken out in the open away from London.
…manipulating temperatures to suit the climate agenda.
It can also be measured inside the oven.
Everything is made to fit your agenda.
I have a brighter red highlight in my font that you can lend me if you think the one you chose doesn’t push propaganda enough!
Note that you are taking temperature records in the last century, because they are not on the airport tarmac.
Urban hot island should not count and you know but grift continues.
In its new annual report, the Met Office claims that “our new analysis of these observations really shines a light on the fastest changing aspects of our weather as a result of climate change”. Not only temperature data is brought to the Net Zero table, but also precipitation. Tireless investigative journalist Paul Homewood looks at how the Met Office spun the rain in a new article on Everyday skeptics. He agreed with the Met Office’s claim that rainfall had increased since 1961, but questioned why that year was chosen to start the timeline. The graph below shows why.
England and Wales is a wet country, but the island’s position in the North Atlantic causes seasonal, annual and long-term decadal variations. The year 1961 falls in a drier interlude, and totals are now equal to those of the 1930s, 1880s and 1780s.
Aided by the widespread availability of satellite images and measurements, the Met Office does an excellent job of short-term weather forecasting and is of great benefit to shipping, the military, agriculture and the general population. But the state-funded body of more than £100 million a year is clearly full of green activists who, as evidenced by some skeptical journalists have shown, use unreliable figures, carefully curated statistics and inaccurate measurements to promote attachment itself. hydrocarbon elimination frenzy.
