Less than a week after the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, the former president’s closing statement has gained momentum on ABC News’ TikTok page.
On Tuesday, Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, faced Vice President Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, on the ABC News debate stage in Philadelphia for the first time as the two clashed over abortion, the Russia-Ukraine war, and immigration. .
Since the debate, Harris has received a positive reception, with flash polls by CNN and Fox News’ post-debate panel of voters saying he came out ahead of Trump. Additionally, a poll by YouGov, released after the debate, found that more voters saw Harris as the winner (54 percent of respondents voted for Harris and 31 percent for Trump).
However, Trump has repeatedly claimed that he has a better debate performance.
“… Polls clearly show that I won the Debate against Comrade Kamala Harris, the Democratic Radical Left Candidate, on Tuesday night, and she immediately asked for a Second Debate,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday night.
It’s unclear which poll Trump was referring to.
On Friday, Representative Lauren Boebert, a Colorado Republican and Trump ally, took to social media to point to an ABC News TikTok video of the nomination’s closing statement.
“The media is trying to create an image for Kamala Harris as some popular woman who has taken the country by storm. In fact, outside of the DC newsroom no one cares,” wrote Boebert in a post to X, formerly Twitter, on Friday. .
According to ABC News’ TikTok page, where Trump and Harris’ closing statements were uploaded three days ago, the former president’s closing statement video had 24.7 million views with 1.7 million likes as of Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, the video of the closing statement of the vice president has 4.7 million views with more than 220,000 likes.
In response to the number of views of TikTok, in the statement email to NewsweekTrump’s communications director Steven Cheung, addressing Harris, said, “Everyone knows Kamala Harris has nothing to offer America, that’s why President Trump has all the momentum and the American people who stand with him when he returns to the White House.”
Newsweek has reached out to the Harris campaign via email for comment.
In his closing remarks, Trump questioned why Harris had not implemented the policies he proposed during Tuesday’s debate during his three-and-a-half years in the White House.
“They’ve had three and a half years to fix the border. They’ve had three and a half years to create jobs,” Trump said. “Why don’t they do it? They should go now, go down to the beautiful White House, go to the Capitol, get everyone together and do what they want.”
The former president said Harris believed “in things that the American people don’t believe in,” when he talked about fracking and fossil fuels.
Trump said that international leaders have come and shown that they do not know what is happening to the United States. He talked about the war that is happening between Russia and Ukraine as well as in the Middle East, pointing to the potential for a third World War. Trump also brought up immigration.
“We cannot sacrifice our country for a bad vision,” Trump said. “We are a failed nation.
In his closing statement, Harris compared the choice between the future and the past.
“I think you’ve heard tonight two very different visions for our country: one focused on the future and one focused on the past,” he said. “We are not going back, and I believe that the American people know that we all have more in common than what divides us and that we can create new ways to move forward.”
Harris said he believes in what the state can do and ensure everyone is treated with respect.
“I will be a president who protects our basic rights and our freedoms,” Harris said. “I started my career as a prosecutor. I’ve been a DA, attorney general, senator and now vice president. I only have one client: people.”
He said he didn’t care if the victim or witness was a Republican or a Democrat, calling for the same sentiment in the next president.
“I’m going to be president for all Americans,” Harris said.
Meanwhile, shortly after the debate, the Harris campaign immediately challenged Trump to another, with Fox News inviting the two nominees to another showdown.
However, Trump has rejected her proposal. When asked by Newsweek why Trump won’t debate Harris again, Cheung, before saying via email on Friday afternoon, “Like President Trump said, he totally dominated Kamala Harris on the debate stage and because he has been thoroughly defeated, he is asking for more because he lost. Too bad.”
