Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in healthcare technology, today announced a major step forward in making radiology expertise for diagnostic imaging accessible to more patients. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance of remote scanning and remote protocol adjustment features in the Philips Radiology Operations Command Center (ROCC) (1) means radiologists can now assist technologists directly, by remote control. scan or adjust the protocol to acquire high quality images needed for good diagnostic confidence and patient results.

ROCC is a multi-vendor, multi-modality, safe and secure imaging solution used in North America and Europe. It works with any vendor’s MR or CT configuration and seamlessly connects imaging experts in the command center with technologists at scan locations across the organization. A pilot study at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in London, UK resulted in a 9% increase in total scanning throughput as a result of reduced scan times and a zero examination recall rate over the study period (3).
ROCC’s remote scanning capabilities (1) allow expert users to edit MR and CT scanner consoles in real time, from anywhere and share their expertise through chat, voice and video collaboration on demand, without compromising privacy, security or safety. ROCC enables remote collaboration between imaging experts and on-site technologists to aid in accurate image acquisition, first, for more efficient and better patient care.
