Frank Skinner and David Baddiel reunite on the Gogglebox sofa for Channel 4 reality show special Stand Up To Cancer.
Comedians created a chaotic couple in the 90s when they joined the BBC series Fantasy Football League. Later, he hosted the popular ITV talk show Baddiel and Skinner Unplanned from 2000 to 2005.
Twenty years in friends really take a trip down memory lane and recreate the chemistry on the screen in Celebrity Gogglebox when they show running commentary on the nation’s favorite TV show and the most surprising on-air moments.
“It’s an amazing cause and Dave and I, back on the sofa, look better than riding K2, carrying a fridge to Istanbul or the sweaty stuff we’re doing for charity,” Frank, 67, said in a statement. .
David, 60, added: “I’m a fan of Gogglebox, Stand Up To Cancer and Frank Skinner, so it wasn’t difficult.
‘If we can raise awareness and money to fight this terrible disease, it’s worth the huge effort of slumping in front of a screen with an old friend.’
They now live ‘on the same street 15 doors down from each other’, making the job easier, as Frank explained.
‘I’ve been watching TV with David Baddiel for about 30 years. The only TV I refuse to watch with him is stuff that features me. He never laughed.’
The pair are also behind the most popular song in English football, Three Lions, together with Lightning Seeds that came out in 1996. They dedicated a live performance of the song for the Lionesses in 2022 after the Euro victory.
In an interview with Metro last year, Frank opened up about his long-lasting bond.
‘It is a friendship that never diminishes. I think I gave up too much. All my successful relationships are based on me giving up,” he said at the time.
Meanwhile, David included the entire section on friendship in his religious book, The God Desire which came out in 2023.
Frank, who is a member of the Catholic church, explained why he would not read to The Times.
‘I said I wouldn’t read it. I joined and, to be fair to him, he sent me the piece and said, “If there’s anything you don’t like…” because I’m a bit medieval when it comes to relationships, “I’m afraid we’re going to burn in the fire hell.”
‘So I didn’t read it, but I went to a discussion they did in Edinburgh and I really enjoyed it, and afterwards we went and had tea and talked about it.
‘And I said, “Look, I can’t get over the fact that the basic message of this book is ‘I like to believe in God, but I’m too smart”.
‘And he said, “No, it’s not like that.” And then we talked about it and about 10 minutes later he said, “Yeah, you might be right. Maybe that’s it.” And that’s it.’
Gogglebox isn’t the only highly anticipated reunion Frank has confirmed this month.
A few weeks ago, the popular Absolute Radio slot show – The Frank Skinner Show – with co-hosts Emily Dean and Pierre Novellie returned in podcast form after getting axed after a 15-year run.
‘It’s like in the old movies when the kids are rejected by the big theater and one of them says, “Why don’t we do the show here in the barn? I think the barn would suit us”, he said of Frank Off The Radio.
Celebrity Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer will be shown on Channel 4 at 9pm on Friday, October 25.
