Lindsay Lohan is a seasoned pro when it comes to romantic comedies – but has to pretend she got high after eating a bag of weed gummies in her new holiday film Our Little Secret given some challenges.
“You know, I didn’t even know where I was going (with that scene), actually,” Lohan, 38, said exclusively. Us Weekly before the release of the film. “And I was like, ‘I just need to calm down today.’ Because I don’t know what it feels like! So I’m really nervous and I’m like, ‘Do you know what it’s like?'”
Lohan portrays Avery in the Netflix film, who finds herself in chaos when she and her ex Logan (Ian Harding) found out they are now dating their brothers – and are forced to spend the holidays together. While the couple has endless baggage to unload, Logan helps Avery when she accidentally snacks on a marijuana gummy bear minutes before going to church.
Harding, for her part, wants to follow her character by helping Lohan through her acting challenges, but isn’t sure how to approach the situation.
“I know what they say when you jump in (and give advice). I was a little scared to be, like, ‘Oh, this is what it’s like!’ and (had people) be like, ‘Excuse me, Ian?'” he said. “Also in the house of God, you know?”
Not only does Avery consume gum before attending religious services — she also looks forward to reading stories to the entire congregation, including the monster from hell, Erica (Kristin Chenoweth). When the words began to jumble up before Avery’s eyes and the Virgin Mary began to speak to her in real time, it was clear that things had taken a turn for the worse.
Despite Lohan’s worries — “When I read the script, I was like, ‘I have no idea about this!'” she said. us – Harding and Chenowith fully support the scene.
“That was one of my favorite parts! I was like, ‘Oh, come on,'” Harding insisted, while Chenowith added, “The same, the same!”
Spoiler alert – Lohan ends the scene. And although she worries about how to properly portray a “stoned” person (as Harding’s character in the film shows), Lohan – along with the rest of the cast – agreed that filming the film brought them closer together.
“It’s very good. It was really fun. It was a fun shoot,” Lohan said us. “We all spent a lot of time together on the set of the shoot, so we all had to find something fun to do in the evening, whether it was ordering food from outside, having lunch together. But it was a great experience.
While Lohan has been known for rom-coms since playing the lovable twins Hallie and Annie in 1998. Parents Section, she has also been the Christmas Queen for the past few years. For her, making a seasonal film is even more special because she is a mother.
“They have always been sentimental to me, but now they are more special and more sentimental because I can share them with my son and everything is new through his eyes,” she shared. “Everything is like the first time. So beautiful. So dizzy.”
Lohan and her husband, Bader Shammaswelcome son, Luai, in 2022, and in It means Girls star can’t help but gush over the new milestone.
“I just sit here and talk about him,” he quipped, before adding with a laugh, “He walks fast now. And, like, knows food and will (breathing heavily) if it’s rice, or pasta.
Chenowith, for her part, also enjoys holiday traditions with her husband, Josh Bryant – just don’t expect him to cook.
“I think people think I’m, like, a decorator and a cook. I’m really good,” Chenowith began, before Lohan interrupted. “I saw you make a Halloween cake and I was like, ‘I didn’t think she could cook!'”
Chenowith joked that trying Halloween treats was actually her “first time” using a stove, but she enjoys attending other people’s parties — and learning about the decorating aspect of the holiday.
“I love making my tree,” she noted. “Since then it’s me and my wife (things). This will be our second (Christmas together).
While the level of culinary expertise may vary, one thing about Lohan, Chenowith and Harding all cand do is act – and don’t be surprised if Lohan continues her legacy as the ultimate holiday rom-com for years to come.
“Holiday stories are always light and fun,” she said. “But I also think rom-coms bring that too. That’s just the essence of fun. I mean, you can go Christmas crazy when there’s decorations everywhere. (Create a) Winter Wonderland.
Our Little Secret hits Netflix on November 27.
