Eastern Europe is on the move, with several heads of state bucking the globalist trend emanating from Brussels and Strasbourg.
The BBB format – meaning Belgrade, Bratislava and Budapest – has come together, with Serbia’s Aleksandar Vucic, Slovakia’s Roberto Fico and Hungary’s Viktor Orbán showing a united front on many issues, from migration to the war in Ukraine.
The three leaders emphasized today their efforts to curb illegal migration to the European Union, once again saying that ‘protecting the bloc’s external borders is the best defense’ and that more EU funds are needed for this work.
Illegal crossings through the western Balkans fall by 79% annually to less than 17,000 by 2024.
Reuters reported:
“Meeting in Komarno, Slovakia, on the Hungarian border, the leaders praised the efforts to reduce the number of migrants, mainly from the Middle East and Africa, who come through the ‘Balkan route’ through Serbia and to the EU through Hungary.”
Migrants usually do not stop in the country, moving to richer countries in western Europe, like Germany.
“Illegal migration remains a political issue across Europe almost a decade after the crisis in 2015, when around 1 million people arrived in the bloc. Last year around a third of that number came.
EU leaders have agreed last week on the creation of stricter policies to speed up the return of illegals.
Orban and Fico are some of the harshest critics of the EU’s migration policy.
“‘We were right when we said clearly at the beginning of the migration crisis that the basis of the fight against illegal migration is the protection of the external EU borders’, said Fico, calling the fight against illegal migration a priority.”
They think that a large part of the EU budget after 2027 should be dedicated to fighting the serious threat of illegal migration.
“Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia has seen 80% fewer migrants this year.
After 2015, Hungary erected a heavily guarded fence on its southern border and Orban has clashed with Brussels over migration policy. He said that asylum applications must be assessed before someone is allowed to enter the EU, saying that this model, used in Hungary, is the only one that works.
Hotspots for migrant processing can be set up in places like Africa, and it is possible, Vucic said.
Euronews reported:
“‘We are talking about building a camp in the migrant’s country of origin or in a safe third country where the migrants will be intercepted’, said Fico.
“We are talking about a better return policy because 100% of illegal migrants who come to Europe, 80% stay there, and only 20% can return.”
BBB leaders praised the outsourcing hot spot model launched by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Albania.
“‘There is a rebellion in Brussels against migration. The Brussels migration pact is part of the problem, not the solution, Hungarian Orbán sent in X. ‘The only way to solve the European migration crisis is to protect our borders and stop migration. This is what we are here for’.’ In 2023, a decision was made to return 430,000 illegal migrants from the countries of the European Union, and only 84,000 have returned so far’, the Hungarian prime minister said.
Fico and Orbán fully support Vučić for Serbia’s accession to the EU bloc.
“We have achieved results by working together, it is not easy, but this year, there are 80% less than last year. We will continue to work together, and I am sure that the results will be good”, said Vučić. “Currently, there are only 477 migrants in the reception center of the Republic of Serbia. We will continue to work for the benefit of Europe and our friends, brothers and sisters in Hungary and Slovakia’.
And while this did not make headlines in the west, he also talked about peace, a forbidden subject.
TASS reported:
“Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has confirmed that he, along with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, are the only European politicians who are not afraid to discuss peace for the conflict in Ukraine.
