Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., said he looks forward to working with the Trump Administration and hopes President-elect Donald Trump keeps his promises on interest rates.
“I look forward to working with the Trump Administration to keep its promise to cap credit card interest rates at 10%,” Sanders wrote in a post on X on Friday.
“We cannot continue to allow the big banks to make record profits by ripping off America by charging 25 to 30% interest rates. It is usury,” he wrote.
Some X users praised Sanders and thanked him for supporting Trump’s efforts.

“Thank you for trying to focus on the good potential of the next administration instead of fear mongering,” commented one person.
“I don’t have Bernie agreeing with Trump on anything on the Election BINGO Card,” commented another.
“This is a moment in our country’s history that no one should ever forget. Wow! Trump and Bernie working together for the American people! Maybe saving this country from the impossible. Thanks Bernie!” Other users commented.
The left-wing lawmaker, who is registered as a member of the Senate Democratic caucus, tore into the Democratic Party after Trump’s 2024 presidential election victory and accused the party of abandoning the working class.
“It’s no surprise that the Democratic Party that has abandoned the working class will find that the working class has abandoned them. First, it’s the White working class, and now it’s Latino and Black workers as well,” Sanders said in an earlier statement.

“When Democratic leaders defend the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they are right,” he said.
Sanders characterized the Harris campaign as a “disaster.”
“Will the big money interests and well-paid consultants who control the Democratic Party learn any real lessons from this dangerous campaign?” he asked.
“Will they understand the pain and political alienation that tens of millions of Americans are experiencing?” he added. “Does he have any ideas about how we can take on an increasingly powerful oligarchy that has enormous economic and political power? Probably not.”
When Republicans secure a majority in the Senate After the 2024 election, the 83-year-old Sanders, who has served in the chamber since 2007, won only six more years.

“Unbelievably, realistically, inflation-adjusted weekly wages for the average American worker are lower today than they were 50 years ago,” Sanders said earlier. “Today, despite the explosion of technology and worker productivity, many young people will have a worse standard of living than their parents.”
Former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.joined many Democrats who attacked Sanders’ comments.
“With all due respect, and I have great respect for (Sanders), for what it stands for, but I don’t respect people saying that the Democratic Party has abandoned working-class families. That’s where we are,” Pelosi told The New York Times podcast “Interview” on Saturday.

Pelosi’s remarks came days after Sanders posted on X that the Democratic loss should “not come as a big surprise” after working-class voters — first working-class Whites and then working-class Latinos and Blacks — looked elsewhere for change.
