A total of 89 young players have signed up SA20 Rookie Draft for the third season of the league, will be played in 2025. It includes like South Africa U-19 fast bowler Tristan Luus, Western Province all-rounder Abdallah Bayoumy, North West wicket-keeper batsman Meeka-el Prince, South Africa U-19 captain Juan James and SA Emerging XI dough Marais Council.
Out of 89, only six points need to be filled by six franchise in SA20. The draft will take place on October 1st at Cape Town.
Five of the six new players selected in the last auction, in addition to two new substitutes, have been included in the list of players retained by their respective teams for the third edition of the tournament.
SA20 Head of Cricket Operations, Stephen Cook, said the League remains committed to exposing young South African talent to high-quality international standard competition where they can learn from some of the world’s leaders. T20 coachplayers, and optimal team environment.
“The new cast is an incredible success story from Season 2, with so many great stories,” he said. “Seeing young players get the chance to see some of the best players and coaches in the world is really encouraging and bodes well for the development of South Africa’s player pipeline.”
Who is the Rookie?
A Rookie is a South African player aged 22 or under on the day of the auction who has not been contracted to the SA20 previous. All six teams are required to select players from the Rookie draft.
The player who meets the definition of a rookie can buy in the regular auction stage, but if he does not vote in the regular auction, then he will be eligible for the rookie draft that will take place at the end of the regular auction.
Each team will have two minutes to make their choice and will be ‘on the clock’ to stay within the parameters.
Each new player has a set value of R75 000, which will be deducted from the salary cap available before the auction to ensure that there is absolute clarity at all stages of the Player Auction on the amount of the remaining purse and to ensure that the Rookie Fee is sufficient for each Franchise.

When is the SA20 Auction?
The Rookie Draft (and SA20 Auction) will take place in Cape Town on Tuesday, October 1 at 1615 SAST (1945 IST / 1445 GMT / 1015 EST).
The auction will be broadcast live on SuperSport (Sub-Saharan Africa), Viacom (India) and Sky Sports (UK).
