Rosie Perez has been a lifelong boxing fan. However, he kept his love for the game a secret because many people found it “too barbaric.” But a few years ago, he started tweeting comments while watching fights.
Fast forward to now. Dubbed “The First Girl of Boxing,” Perez is one of the official commentators for the Mike Tyson and Jake Paul bout that will go down tonight in Dallas and air on Netflix.
“It will be an interesting match,” Perez said on Thursday. “Jake Paul in his late 20s, and Mike Tyson 58. Three many years. It’s a mistake.”
Like many people, Perez was not happy when Paul started his profession. “Everybody hated him when he first got into boxing, along with me,” he said. “But less about hate, more concern. This can be a real sport. You don’t play boxing. Individuals can experience damage. Individuals have misplaced who live in the ring, so I used to be the opposition to people. But he just saved. He saved away and left.
Perez doesn’t make predictions about who will win because he believes everyone has an equal shot. “Mike’s trying the best he can see now, everyone’s saying it’s a 50/50 chance,” he said. “The place before they have been like, ‘Jake Paul has this in the bag as a result of being young and does not have the energy to lose.’ He beat about 5 opponents – but all of them were not Mike Tyson.
The Q&A below has been edited for size and readability.
How afraid of Mike or Jake getting hurt?
I am always afraid in every boxing match, as a result of one punch can change the fight. Yes, one can beat anyone by accident. So I joined. I’m not only involved with Tyson, I’m also involved with Jake Paul, but I’m extra involved with Tyson because of age.
What are some of your favorite boxing movies?
“The Tougher They Fall” with Humphrey Bogart is the result of the main boxing movie I saw that handled the company of boxing, and broke the coronary heart because I did not know how dirty it was, and the way again then the crowd only took advantage of the individual. Then there is the main “Rocky” and high on the road is “Raging Bull.” What De Niro did with the character, how well he understood the recreation of combat, was completely irrelevant. The cinematography and course by Martin Scorsese is insane. I used to watch movies for the primary time and I know what the result is as a result of I know the combat, but I used to stay in my seat sting.
Jake Paul is a big supporter of Donald Trump. I would like to get your feedback – or do you think that sports and politics should not be combined?
After I’m at a boxing match, I don’t talk about politics. Donald Trump showed up in UFC fights, and confirmed up in boxing matches, and he was in the boxing company before destroying Atlantic Metropolis. But what I have discovered over time as a result of me being very, very outspoken after I was in a boxing match, I do not discuss. That said, I hate giving (Trump) credit scores. It’s a genius transfer for Trump to put himself in the sports world because of the tribal factor, right? If you concentrate, now we have all different nations. When you are in a sports match, everyone is on the same tribe. Even if you’re rooting for another group, you’re all there for the same goal. And the entry is huge for the American population. With regards to Jake Paul, my view of him as a businessman changed because he supported girls’ boxing. Women’s boxing has been neglected for a long time. They don’t get paid the same as men. However, they are oppressed in the same face as men. They still lose like men, but they don’t make the same amount of money. If you want to punch me in the face, you pay me more the same amount you pay this guy over here. She kept saying, “No one should see girls boxing. No one is going to stop girls.’ The main one to point out is Dana White and the second one to point out is Jake Paul. He made a match with Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor. He said, “I’m going to promote Madison Sq. In the background, and I will get paid for these girls. And yes. After the fight, Amanda says she can buy a house.
I know you don’t like to combine sports and politics, but I have to ask you how you feel after the election?
There have been many Democrats who have been corrupted, they usually save me asking, “Why are you not corrupted? I said, “I’m not in a hurry. I’m just afraid. I’m afraid of the nation.” I said, “I instructed you from day one, even though I campaigned for him – because I’m like that, we have to do everything, all hands on deck to verify that he won extra to verify. he no longer entered the workplace – but from day one I saved the marketing campaign, “It’s the financial system, stupid.” And guess what? It bit us in the ass, and it’s just a tired tablet to swallow. However, we got to take medicine and get up from the rude canvas and start training again and keep fighting. It’s like a gathering that has been experienced. I was like, “What’s wrong, you? We got here earlier than we did. We were in the wrong place before.” You cry all night, after that you are fine. You are the main individual I am telling this to because no one wants to send this message to the market. I keep telling everyone, “I live in the real world.” I know that I’m accusing myself of being elitist because I’m in a leisure company, and I clap back. I said, “Listen, you bastards, I come from poverty. I dream of America. I bust my ass. I’m rejected regularly because of my color and my nationality and my ethnicity. I stop every day for my profession, so I’m bothering you. And consider it or not , I’m more than you think as a result of I live in the real world. But there are a lot of Republicans in the market that are not Trumpers, and we need to start listening to them. We need to start listening to them they are trying to tell you what they need from the authorities.
As you say, Trump is in a fight. If he is confirmed in the Tyson-Paul fight, will you shake his hand?
No, but I’m not going to be rude to him because he’s going to be the next president. I don’t want to give him any sort of disrespect, but I don’t know if I can shake hands with him in a good religion. But as I said, boxing and politics should not be mixed. I’m pretty sure he’ll feature because, no nonsense, it would be a sensible transfer if he did.
