Pat Mahomes Sr., former Major League Baseball pitcher and father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, appeared to get his son’s name famous when he was stopped by police last February.
According to police video footage obtained by TMZ, Mahomes pleads with officers as he is being handcuffed and calls out his son’s name several times.
“Can I say one thing?” Mahomes Sr. started. “My son is getting ready to play in the Super Bowl.”
Mahomes Sr. admitted he “had a few drinks” before raising concerns about how the arrest could hurt his son and the Chiefs as they prepare for the Super Bowl. “I’m not drunk, I promise. I’ve had a few, but he can’t have this now. This can’t happen.”

The elder Mahomes was eventually charged with driving while intoxicated.
Police conducted the stop because Mahomes Sr. was driving an expired vehicle. The officer was taken into custody after he failed a field sobriety test, police reported.
Mahomes Sr. then explained that the car he was driving at the time was a gift, and would have the appropriate registration in “the next day or two.”

“We’ve never had a star in this area and now we’re getting a chance to be a star and now we’re going to have a scandal,” he said. “… We will have a scandal for no reason because the registration when he gave the car has not been entered, which will probably be in the next day or two.”
The officer told Mahomes Sr. that they can’t expect “based on who you are.”
“Look, this is my business, I don’t want to make a bigger problem than it already is, but unfortunately, like you said, I have a job to do and I can’t change just based on who you are,” the officer said.
Despite hearing the information from the officer, Mahomes expressed concern that the situation would hurt his son and predicted it would affect the Chiefs — if the team ends up losing a big game.
“Boy, it’s crazy. My son’s getting ready to play in the f–king Super Bowl and I’m doing an interview, five or six days, and then, now, it’s going to be the news that’s going to f–k with him, and he’s probably going to f–k he stepped up,” Mahomes Sr. said. “And it probably won’t win the Super Bowl. But that’s okay. If you want to do it, that’s great.”
Mahomes Sr.’s blood alcohol content. (BAC) was reported at .23, which is almost three times the legal limit in Texas.
