Greer Winbury
Throughout the series, Greer tries to keep up the facade of a perfect marriage to sell more of her books. Greer even prevented the public from knowing that she was actually funding Winbury’s lifestyle since her husband, Tag, had no money to his name despite having a family trust.
Greer also receives a call from a man named Broderick, who makes the police think he hired a hit man to kill Merritt because of his relationship with Tag. It wasn’t until he was accused of murder that Greer admitted that Broderick was his secret brother who was blackmailing him for money to pay off gambling debts.
The matriarch of the Winbury family finally admits that her love story with Tag is not what it seems. They actually met when Broderick helped her find a client as an escort. Tag paid for Greer’s services several times before the wedding – and buried the truth about his past.
At the end of the series, Greer finally leaves the Tag after turning a blind eye to many indiscretions in the past. Greer used her life as inspiration for his best-selling item, and six months later he found Amelia in London. Amelia gets a copy of Greer’s book – which appears to be based on their shared experience – and opens the door for them to stay in touch in the future.
Tag Winbury
From the beginning it was obvious that Tag was hiding everything. The Perfect Couple confirmed that some of Tag’s unspoken mistakes include dealings with people in the inner circle of the family – including the former nanny. However, his relationship with Merritt is when things go too far. Tag refuses to leave Greer to Merritt, who leaves him where Abby drowns.
Tag denied having any involvement with Merritt until he had no choice but to confess. He also aired his family’s personal problems at the book show, which made his public image worse. At the end of the show, Tag is at peace with Greer’s defeat and plans to stay home on the island.
Amelia Sak
Marrying into the Winbury family wasn’t Amelia’s only concern on her wedding weekend. Amelia had been skeptical about Benji, and the delay allowed her to accept it. But first, Amelia finds out about Merritt’s relationship with Tag, which leads to a fight between the best friends.
Amelia felt guilty for the last conversation with Merritt, and tried to solve it by killing him as a way to solve it. He eventually discovers that one of his mother’s pills is missing, and is found in Merritt’s system. By connecting the dots, the authorities realize that Abby got through Thomas, and Amelia was there to see Merritt’s killer arrested.
In her personal life, Amelia spends the entire season conflicted over her feelings for Benji’s best man, Shooter (Ishaan Khattar). Amelia and Shooter have a past that no one knows about, which causes the bride to give her feelings. Benji sees a couple kissing, and at the end of his time on Nantucket, the wedding is dead.
Amelia and Benji did well The Perfect Couple hinted at a possible reconciliation for him and Shooter in the future. Six months later, he is seen working at a zoo in London, where Amelia and Greer cross paths again.
Benji Winbury
The middle child of the Winbury family spent several seasons blind to what was going on around him. When Benji finds out about Tag’s relationship with Merritt, he is unaware of Amelia’s doubts about her future. Benji isn’t too happy when he sees Amelia and Shooter together, but he knows their relationship isn’t working.
The series finale shows Benji breaking up with Amelia before returning to his chaotic family.
Merritt Monaco
The story behind Merritt’s murder is mostly told through flashbacks. While Merritt gives off a certain vibe, she’s not quite the party girl that others expect her to be. That’s why Merritt’s relationship with Tag is so bad for him. She thinks there is a future for her, but when she realizes there isn’t, Merritt still wants to keep the baby. The decision put a target on his back.
On the night she died, Tag explained to Merritt that she wanted him to abort her unborn baby. He tells Amelia, who is not happy about the situation. Merritt then talks to Thomas’ older sister Isabel (Isabelle Adjani) about her predicament, but she talks to Abby who finally takes her turn.
Abby laced her drink to Merritt with barbiturates before drowning her.
Abby Winbury
While she seems oblivious to what is going on around her, a pregnant Abby learns that Thomas is having an affair with Isabel. He also finds out Merritt is pregnant with Tag’s baby, which means Thomas will have to wait another 18 years before he gets access to the money in his family’s trust fund.
Abby takes the pills she found in Thomas’ stash to cure Merritt. He then killed Merritt before asking the family’s housekeeper to get rid of the evidence. Abby is arrested for murder after police connect the dots.
Thomas Winbury
In addition to being unfaithful to his wife, Thomas is also in debt. He owes his girlfriend millions and counts on Tag’s trust. When Merritt’s pregnancy threatens, Thomas tries to shoot her, but ultimately fails. Isabel stops and they go to the hotel, which is when Abby takes the opportunity to finish the job by killing Merritt.
Thomas doesn’t seem to realize that he stole the pills from Amelia’s mother that he gave his wife the means to commit a crime. The series ends with Isabel confronting Thomas at her family home for accusing him of murder.
Will Winbury
As the youngest in the family, Will is unaware of the secret his parents have buried. He finds out because of the murder investigation that caused his nanny Tag to leave his life. Will also finds out that Merritt was pregnant with Tag’s baby before she died and offered to help.
Merritt comforts Will’s support, but has nothing to do with his death. He ends the series on a positive note as he spends time with police chief Dan Carter’s (Michael Beach) daughter, Chloe (Mia Isaac).
Dual shooter
The only reason Shooter looks guilty is because of the wire transfer he made to Greer. Shooter even tried to leave the island to avoid having to answer questions, but he couldn’t hide the truth. Turns out Shooter didn’t know what he was giving Greer the money at the time. Greer explained to the authorities that he had to pay for his brother’s debut.
Shooter still appears to be out of the loop when the series ends. He wasn’t the person he liked anymore, which meant he could go home. Earlier, Shooter talked to Amelia about their complicated relationship. Amelia explains that she needs to work on herself first – but ends up opening up to a potential future reconciliation between the two of them.
