What happened to Hilaria Baldwin and her accent?
On Tuesday, Alec and Hilaria Baldwin announced their reality show. The news caused shock, confusion, and jokes.
But another aspect of the confusing reality series news caught people’s attention: Hilaria’s voice.
In the past, his changing accent has drawn criticism and accusations of dishonesty. And the debate is just furious!
‘The Baldwins’ will arrive in 2025
It doesn’t look like Hilaria Baldwins Real Housewives aspirations will become reality. So he and his family are slumming it at TLC.
Although The Baldwins as the working title states, the series will follow Alec Baldwin, Hilaria Baldwin, and their seven children. The eldest (shared) child is 10 years old, while the youngest is not yet 2 years old.
Oddly enough, the show’s announcement comes amid news of Alec Baldwin’s tragic legal troubles. Rust shooting. The trailer dropped more than a month before Baldwin’s trial.
The ridiculous news spread on Instagram, where Alec and Hilaria Baldwin posted the series to their followers.
Alec and Hilaria seem relaxed, as the intro features multiple takes alongside a montage of their children engaging in age-appropriate rambunctiousness. In other words, it must have gotten really messy.
Despite some grim circumstances (and the technical possibility that Alec Baldwin might be behind bars at the premiere), the video is exercise got a lot of positive replies. But then the debate over Hilaria’s vote took over…
“Will Hillary speak with a Bostonian or Spanish accent? Maybe every other episode she can switch???” read one comment.
“It won’t work, pal. It won’t work,” said another commenter. “Tell me again how Spanish your wife is. Like you told (David) Letterman, ‘My wife, she’s from Spain.’ On national TV. You two have zero credibility.”
Additional comments mocked Hilaria’s embarrassing flub, writing: “What do you say? Cucumber?”
What is this all about? Well, Hilaria Baldwin has ties to Mallorca, Spain. She has, at times, presented herself as a Spanish woman.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts as Hillary Lynn Hayward-Thomas, she is of English, French-Canadian, German, Irish, and Slovak descent.
In the past, Hilaria said that she grew up in a Spanish-speaking household and that her family regularly traveled to Spain. Hilaria’s parents even moved to Mallorca in 2011.
Hilaria has faced accusations of ‘impersonating’ a Spanish woman
In 2015, Hilaria Baldwin appeared in Today Show for the cooking part. While making the gazpacho, he apparently forgot what cucumber was called.
“We’ve, um, how do you say?” he said at the time before he correctly identified the fruit. He would later explain that he had simply forgotten the word the first time it was on television.
At the time of receiving insults at the time. A slip of the tongue is what you might expect from someone who didn’t grow up speaking English, rather than a woman from Boston.
In 2020, Twitter users began to point out inconsistencies and alleged cheating behavior of Hilaria. This was when it became public, most people knew that he was from Boston.
The website of Hilaria’s former talent agency lists her birthplace as Mallorca. And in 2019, Hilaria stated in a podcast that her family did not move to the United States until college. In particular, some of his former high school classmates who remember him in Boston found the statement confusing. Another unintentional mistake?
Hilaria Baldwin now speaks with an American accent
Although HIlaria defended her past statements, insisting that she felt like a child of two cultures because of her upbringing, she sometimes apologized. Of course, at other times, he sounded defensive.
After the controversy, he began speaking in public with a more traditional American accent.
In the teaser video for The Baldwins, Hilaria has an American accent. This is a surprise to those who have heard of several public appearances before.
