Madeline Gaudreau, wife of Matthew Gaudreau – who was killed while riding his bike with his brother, Johnny, on Thursday – is pregnant with their first child.
Madeline’s sister, Holland Korbitz, set up a GoFundMe page to support her and the unborn baby on Friday and express the family’s heartache.
“During this unimaginably difficult time, we are coming together to support Matthew’s wife, Madeline and growing baby Tripp, and help ease some of the financial burdens they are currently facing,” she wrote on the fundraising page.
“Your support will give us time to work on grieving and healing as a family.”
As of Friday afternoon, the page had raised more than $150,000 for Madeline and Tripp.
Furthermore, the baby registry for Tripp is live on Babylist.
Both the registry and Korbitz confirmed Tripp’s due date in December.
While Madeline’s social media is private, she can be seen holding her growing belly in a photo shared on Katie Gaudreau’s Instagram page.
Katie – Matthew and Johnny’s sister – is set to get married on Friday. His marriage was annulled after the death of his brothers.
Matthew and Johnny were killed Thursday night by a suspected drunken driver who crashed into a Jeep while they were riding their bikes on County Route 551 in Salem County, NJ
The suspect, Sean M. Higgins, was taken into police custody and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
He admitted to consuming five to six beers before getting behind the wheel, according to an affidavit filed by New Jersey state troopers.
“Tonight we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two sisters-in-law, two nephews, two cousins, two family members, two friends, two friends, but really two amazing human beings,” said Matthew and Johnny . uncle showed in the statement in X there on behalf of his family broken involved.
“We want to let everyone know that we receive your messages of love and support and thank you for your thoughts and prayers.”
The message concluded, “We ask for your respect and privacy during this very difficult time.”
Matthew married Madeline in 2021.
Johnny, who played professional hockey for the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, is survived by his wife, Meredith Gaudreau, and two children: Noa, 1, and Johnny, 6 months.
She and Matthew had been expected to be bridesmaids for her sister Katie’s fiance, Devin Joyce, before her tragic death.
