Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck “had gone through all the details” of the breakup before she officially filed for divorce, a source exclusively told us Us Weekly.
“He had agreed to the terms before filing,” the insider said us about Lopez, 55, and Affleck’s “planned” split after two years of marriage.
The source continued, “J.Lo finally pulled the trigger because this is her agreement to be submitted, and she’s the one who ultimately makes the decision.”
The biggest financial obstacle for the former couple is the house they share in Beverly Hills, which they bought together in May 2023 and sold in early July.
“There is nothing else to share,” the insider added of the property. “One does not want more than the other. Both come with their own important assets.
Lopez waived spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck support when she filed for divorce on Friday, August 20, in Los Angeles County Court after two years of marriage. According to documents obtained by usLopez filed a pro each, meaning himself without a lawyer, and listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024. In addition, he petitioned to drop Affleck from his last name and cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the separation.
The “On the Floor” singer didn’t mention anything about the prenup in her filing, but the celebrity divorce attorney did. Chris Melcher revealed exclusively to us which does not mean that the ex-partner does not have one in place.
“There is no requirement to mention if you have a prenup or not,” Melcher, who was not involved in the Affleck and Lopez case, exclusively told us on Wednesday, August 21. “I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that he didn’t have it just because it wasn’t mentioned.”
She explained that when filing for divorce in California, there is “no place” in the documents to “check the box” that asks if someone has a prenup.
While their assets are being sorted privately, the date Lopez chose to legally end things with Affleck, 52, is important to the couple.
First they got married in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, followed by a bigger and more traditional wedding one month later in Georgia on August 20, 2022.

News of Lopez filing for divorce comes after months of reports that her relationship with Affleck was falling apart.
The duo went weeks without being seen together before us confirmed in May that Affleck moved out of the shared home in Beverly Hills shortly before they were listed for sale during the separation. That same month, neither Lopez nor Affleck acknowledged their second wedding anniversary.
Later that month, a special source told us Affleck and Lopez were “living separate lives” when they walked out, and added, “Jennifer suggested they take time to figure it out.”
Although a separate source told us while there is still a “sliver of hope” for the duo, Affleck was notably absent when Lopez celebrated his 55th birthday in the Hamptons on July 24. However, Lopez wrote a message to his fans thanking them for their support.
“I want you to know on my birthday that YOU are my greatest gift,” she wrote via Instagram. “Besides family and friends, you are always there for me in good times and in difficult times. I can always count on you. And I want you to know that you can count on me. Thank you for your care, understanding, loyalty and that most importantly love you. 🤍 Thank you, thank you, thank you…”
Lopez and Affleck have a lot of history between them. They were previously engaged from 2002 to 2004. They reconnected two decades later, thinking they had found their happy ending, but a source told us. us in August it became “obvious” that he was “inappropriate.”
