BEIJING – Huawei has received more than 2.7 million pre-orders for its tri-fold smartphone, its website showed Monday.
The Chinese company began pre-orders for the Mate XT at noon on Saturday. That was more than two days before Apple’s plans to launch the iPhone 16 on Tuesday morning Beijing time.
Huawei has previously announced that it will launch a new product at 2:30 on Tuesday. The company has not revealed the price for the Mate XT. The device is set to go on sale officially on September 20.
Apple fell off the list of the top five smartphone vendors in China in the second quarter, according to Canalys. This is the first time a domestic player holds all five spots, the company said.
Huawei ranks fourth by market share with 10.6 million smartphones shipped, according to Canalys.
The company only shows shipments for the top five vendors. Apple shipped 10 million phones in the first quarter.
Huawei already sells folding and flip phones, as well as its Chinese competitors. Apple hasn’t expanded into that category yet.
