During an exclusive interview with Filmfare, the actress opened up about her love for fashion, while talking about maintaining versatility when choosing an ensemble. We took the opportunity to delve deeper into our favorite trends, key pieces from the film Yudhra, and shopping destinations. Quote:
What fashion trends would you like to bring back, and why?
Off the shoulder blazer. I really love how structured and elegant they look. When it comes to designers, vintage YSL pieces are my favorite. I also love the ultra feminine vintage look from the ’40s and ’50s.
If you could create a capsule wardrobe inspired by your character in Yudhra, what would it be key to?
My favorite part of my wardrobe is my vintage designer bag. I love vintage luxury bags that are unique and hard to find. I have interesting pieces that I picked up from Rome, Paris, and Bangkok. I find it more interesting to invest in vintage pieces than the current season. Every other person you see is walking around with that one now.
Who is your fashion icon in Bollywood?
I love Sharmila Tagore and Rekha’s style. I also admire Sonam Kapoor. But that’s what everyone agrees on at this point. Among the younger ones, I like Sobhita Dhulipala’s style. It’s versatile, imaginative, and you can tell they’re having fun.
What is your favorite color to wear every day?
My favorite color is pink but funnily enough, it’s not my favorite color. I find myself in white people accidentally more often than I would like for some reason. I love wearing burgundy or wine colors. I feel that the color suits me and helps to keep it mysterious and sexy.
The accessory I can’t live without is the big tote I’m always on the move and the tote is practically like my house on wheels at this point. When it comes to jewelry, I love long danglers. They instantly enhance any outfit. I have a long neck, so I really like it.
What style do you prefer – classic or trendy?
Classic, everyday. I love playing with trends sometimes for red carpet looks and events but when it comes to my personal wardrobe – it’s just classic.
What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever received?
I’m more of a minimalist and can’t wrap my head around the concept of maximalism, so “less is more” is my go to mantra. Another piece of advice I get is to invest in expensive or well-made foundations. Why spend so much on a nice outfit that you’ll wear once, maybe twice when you’d rather invest more in essentials like a nice white shirt, blazer or pants? Invest in a capsule wardrobe.
What is your go-to outfit for a casual day?
Dress up your tank or tank top with baggy casual pants. I dress up or down as per the occasion with accessories and bags.
I know a few. Rome and Paris for luxury and vintage. Bangkok for thrift stores and flea markets, along with pieces from quirky independent designers. Last but not least – India! We have many amazing handicrafts, jewelry and works of art in our own country, in different countries and cities depending on what you want. I love Jaipur because of its silver shops, handlooms and wonderful concept stores. I love Madurai for sarees.
What is your favorite fashion decade?
I love the 60s because I was born boho. The whole subculture of breaking the traditional norms of dressing and doing your own wild thing is interesting!
What are the must-haves for your holiday wardrobe?
I love sexy bikinis, but I always forget to pack them. I love nice but comfortable sandals and sneakers for airport travel. I can’t go anywhere without statement earrings to dress up a casual outfit for a night out. I love a nice bag, heels for evening, and dresses that are versatile from casual-to-sexy. I like to bring my favorite fragrances too. I have a habit of mixing scents depending on my mood and time. Finally, versatile sunglasses are a must!
