Matt Gaetz is no longer in the running to become the new US Attorney General. Less than a week later Donald Trump His nomination for AG, Gaetz removed his name from consideration, admitting through X that “his confirmation is unfair and is a distraction to the critical work” of Trump’s cabinet. Three years earlier, the current Florida representative had been investigated by the FBI for sex-trafficking charges. Although he has not been charged with a crime, Gaetz’s personal life has once again taken center stage. As Americans learned more about her, many wondered if she had children.

Who Is Matt Gaetz’s Wife?
Matt is married to his wife, Ginger Luckey Gaetzfrom August 2021. After Trump chose her as a potential AG, Ginger applauded her husband on social media.
“The Attorney General will look good on you, my love,” she tweeted in November 2024. Via Instagram, Ginger shared a picture of Trump’s announcement. She captioned the post, “My love uses her gifts.”
The following week, Gaetz’s wife shared a supportive Instagram post after withdrawing her name as Trump’s AG nominee.
“The end of time,” Ginger wrote in the post. “No one loves America more than this man.”
Matt Gaetz Sex Trafficking Allegations
In March 2021, Gaetz was investigated for charges related to sex trafficking and having sex with a 17-year-old boy, who was less than a year old in Florida. After the allegations came out, Gaetz denied them in an interview on Tucker Carlson Tonight.
“I’m not in a relationship with a 17-year-old. That’s completely false,” Gaetz said at the time. “The accusation – I read it New York Times – that I have traveled with some 17 years in some relationships. This is false, and the record will show that it is false. Providing airline and hotel rooms to people who are dating people of legal age is not a crime. … People were talking about little children and there were pictures of me with prostitution children. That is clearly false. There will never be such a picture, because no such thing ever happened.
In 2023, the investigation is over. Gaetz was not charged with a crime.
Does Matt Gaetz Have a Law Degree?
Gaetz attended Florida State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He then attended William & Mary Law School and earned his Juris Doctorate. In 2008, he was admitted to the Florida Bar.
Trump announced his choice for AG on November 13, 2024, via Truth Social, nominating Gaetz.
“It is a great honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz of Florida is hereby nominated to be the attorney general of the United States,” Trump wrote, calling Gaetz a “gifted and tenacious attorney.”
The president-elect explained that “few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan weaponization of our justice system,” saying that, as a candidate for AG, Gaetz will “end the gun government, protect our borders, dismantle criminal organizations and restore America. ‘ faith and belief that Trump added that Gaetz “played a key role in defeating the Russians, the Russians, the Russian Hoax, and exposing the appalling and systemic government corruption and weapons” while on the House Judiciary Committee.
Trump wrapped up his official nomination by describing Gaetz as a “champion for the Constitution and the rule of law.” He added that Gaetz “will eliminate systemic corruption at the DOJ, and return the department to its true mission of fighting crime, and upholding democracy and the Constitution.”
“Under Matt’s leadership, all Americans will once again be proud of the Justice Department,” Trump wrote.
