Chloe Bailey are preparing to release their second studio album, Trouble in Paradiseand he gets inspiration from some great singers, including her mentor, Beyoncé.
Talk to NYLON in a wide-ranging interview, the 25-year-old revealed that his sophomore album has a very different sound to his 2023 debut project, In Pieces. The first is to “appreciate the pain of the heart”. Trouble in Paradise it’s “a coming-of-age celebration of being a woman and having fun, not taking life too much.”
“The story of this album is like when you have a summer fling,” Chloë told the outlet Trouble in Paradise. “You’re a hopeless romantic and you’re in love, deep down. You know it won’t last forever, but it feels so good not to care.”
As an artist who is very honest about how he struggles with public reaction to him releasing a child-friendly image he stood at the beginning of his career and how does he compare to his sister, Halle Baileyadded to her frustration, Chloë explained how she looked to the barrier-breaking Black artists who came before her as inspiration for her new era.
they GRAMMY record breaking mentor is the obvious inspiration, but also the end Whitney Houstonstill known for has one of the best voices in the music industry.
Chloë noted that, similar to Whitney, she was caught off guard by people asking her about her music. An experience that her mentor, Beyoncé, also experienced, was most recent at the launch eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter. Houston-born musician infamously received pushback for tapping into her country’s colors as he is usually considered an R&B/Pop artist.
“Early in (Houston’s) career, when she did a big pop record, she got a lot of criticism for it: she was told she wasn’t black enough and didn’t fit the base that made her,” Chloë said. exit. “To see how he went on and became one of the best legendary artists we’ve ever seen, shows that music has no race, no genre, nothing like that. It’s just a feeling and a vibe. . And that’s why I’m proud very much with Beyoncé Cowboy Carter, because black people come from country music. It just goes to show that the possibilities are endless.”
while appearance on Apple Music show 1 Latto, 777 District Radio in March 2023, Chloë admitted that people’s reaction to her sexy solo single was different from her previous work as part of Chloe x Halleleaving him “confused.”
“It’s like, if I do it, it’s forced, it’s contrived. But… I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because they’re not used to seeing me in that light,” she said. “She grew up with her sister and I started having short baby locks on YouTube and everything. But it’s like, this has become me. When I perform, that’s when I feel the most confident and the sexiest. It’s not made up or forced, it’s just the spirit that comes out.”
He notes that while the criticism can sometimes “get under my skin,” he’s ultimately glad that “people are talking.”
“I was like, ‘Damn it, y’all just don’t let me. You let other people be and not me,'” she said. “But it’s okay.”
When it comes to chart-topping mentor Beyoncé, 42, Chloë says she and her sister, Halleadvice that sometimes they have to “let the world catch up because you are always ahead of the curve.”
Back in 2023, Chloë told ET that the “Break My Soul” singer gave her the same help while he was working on it In Pieces.
“Yeah, I know she’s listening to the album,” Bailey said when asked if Bey heard it In Pieces not yet. “He gave me a note before I let him go.”
He continued, gushing over having the mega pop star’s support, “I love him very much. Dearly, dearly, and I thank him very much for everything.”
And with her mentor’s advice, Chloë says she’s excited for her fans Trouble in Paradise. “What I love about my art is that it sneaks up on you. When In Pieces out, not many people get it. But now a year later, people are like, ‘Oh, genius! It’s beautiful! That’s great!'” she told me NYLON. “And if you think about it, my sister and I have become like that before. Neither of us got it when we first came out.”
And the singer has a sweet treat for fans who have been hungry for her sister to work together again they released various solo projects after his second studio album, A time of no shame, in June 2020 down.
Chloë says that Halle is featured in a Trouble in Paradise track, although he did not reveal the title of the song. “I get inside my sister’s head and I’m like, ‘OK, what’s going on in her life right now?’ We both have our own lives,” the singer said, nodding to her sister with her hands full arrival of son with girlfriend DDG in January. “I was like, ‘Sis, we’re going to be in New York at the same time, I’d love to have you on the record.’ It feels like old times.”
