Caroline Dubois will fight Maira Moneo for the interim WBC world title on Saturday 3 August, live on Sky Sports.
The fast-rising star takes the next step in his career on the Zak Chelli vs Callum Simpson bill at the Oakwell Stadium in Barnsley.
Moneo is the interim WBC lightweight title holder so the winner will be in a clash to face Irish boxing legend and WBC lightweight world champion Katie Taylor.
23-year-old star ‘Manis’ Caroline Dubois has had a perfect start to her 9-0 professional career, having been crowned Youth Olympic, World Youth and four-time European Youth champion as an amateur.
Dubois’ undefeated streak in the paid ranks includes a convincing victory over Magali Rodriguez to claim the IBO strap in 2023 and a successful belt defense against Miranda Reyes in February of this year.
Moneo, known as ‘La Panterita’, has mixed with the opposition at the highest level. She won a victory over the former two-weight world ruler Erica Anabella Farias and the only blemish on her record was the result of her disqualification in the 2020 match with Yanina del Carmen Lescano due to a head collision.
For Dubois it will also be the first fight of the new deal Sky Sports and BOXXER promoter.
“I am very happy to have signed a new agreement with BOXXER, Ben Shalom and Sky Sports. For me, this is the biggest platform and I am impressed by the amount that has invested in me and in women’s boxing,” said Dubois.
“I’m ready to announce myself on the big stage. I want to be world champion. I want to fight for the world title against people like Rhiannon Dixon, Beatriz Ferreira and Katie Taylor. I want to unify the division. I want to be undisputed, then I want gain weight.”
He added: “I want to go all out and do something I’ve never done before.
“Moneo is the fight that can take me to the next level. He plays, he is tough and he believes that he will win.
“He’s got a lot of experience. He’s had a lot of fights, so I don’t think he’ll be surprised. He’s going to be aggressive and relentless and I’m ready and I’m very happy.”
But Dubois warned: “Every time I step in the ring, I want to do damage. I want to excite people. I want people to say: ‘Wow, that’s Caroline Dubois, she’s something special!’ I want my name in the heart and on the lips Whether it’s a defeat or a 10-round beatdown, I want to be the standout performance of the night, and on August 3, I came to steal.
“After this fight, I’m going to collide with Katie Taylor. I’m going to be the Interim champion, she’s obligated and unless she vacates, we’re fighting.”
Moneo expects to derail the plan. “I promise, I will bring the belt back to Uruguay and Argentina with me,” he said.
“I am looking forward to coming to England to fight Caroline Dubois. She is a very good fighter, and deserves respect, but she has never faced someone like ‘La Panterita’. I will show her why I am the interim 135 lbs champion.”
BOXXER Founder and CEO Ben Shalom said: “Caroline Dubois is one of the future faces of world boxing. She is a special talent. We have been working with her since her pro debut and we are happy that she continues to trust us to guide her career to the highest level.
“In just 23 years, he has achieved a lot. On August 3, as part of a big night of boxing in Barnsley, he stepped up to challenge Maira Moneo for the WBC interim world title, which could pave the way for some massive fights including a potential shot in female boxing icon Katie Taylor It doesn’t ask for anything bigger than the opportunity for Caroline to realize her dream and set up a fight with one of the biggest names in the sport. It could be a real ‘passing the torch’ moment.”
