Donald Trump is a great world leader with a great sense of humor, but he knows that geopolitics is a consequence that he takes seriously – and unlike the worst VP in American history Kamala Harris, he has no habit of making a fool of himself.
So when Cackling Harris ridiculously claims that world leaders ‘laugh’ at Trump, it reveals a lot about himself.
Of course, foreign ministers from European countries with close ties to the US immediately reacted to the comments, denying them.
During the presidential debate, Harris said world leaders were ‘laughing at Donald Trump’. ‘I have spoken to military leaders, some of whom work with you, and they say you are despicable’.
But when asked about this absurd quote, the foreign ministers involved rejected any choice, and made it clear that they would work with whoever wins.
Fox News reported:
“‘We are friends of America’, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said, noting that Italy and the US are ‘both sides of the same coin’. ‘If Trump will become the new American president, we will work with him when he to be the president of America. We cooperate well with Biden, with Reagan, with Obama’, Tajani added. “For us, the transatlantic relationship is the main strategy of foreign policy, Europe and America.”
Czech Republic Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky insisted he would not interfere in the election, saying ‘leave it to the American people to decide’.
But they cannot stop Trump’s ‘robust’ defense spending message, which Europe hopes will continue to embrace.
“‘The bottom line is that Donald Trump, at the time, had a strong message for Europe, and that message resonated quite a bit and now it’s resonating even more because he said spend more on your defense’, said Lipavsky. ‘My administration is spending more on our defense. We want to reach that 2% of GDP, we will reach it this year, and we will continue next year. So, (if) Donald Trump will be president with this message, ‘Please spend 2%, “we will be OK”.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said the long-standing relationship between the two countries was ‘more than political’.
NATO countries know that before the Trump administration, only a few NATO members spent the mandatory 2% of their GDP on defense.
That number has risen sharply because of Trump’s strong stance on the issue — no laughing matter.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has reported that currently, 23 of the 32 member states have reached the minimum spending requirement of 2%. That’s serious progress.
But of course, no European country has lauded the success of Trump’s first term – and expressed hopes for a strong second term – like Hungary.
According to Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó, his government has ‘great expectations’ for the new Trump administration.
“‘We have great hopes because we believe that many of the major crises that worry us can be resolved with the administration of President Trump’, said Szijjártó, saying that he is the longest-serving foreign minister in NATO. 10 years under his belt.
“‘I don’t see people laughing at Trump’, said Szijjártó. ‘What I see is a lot of fear. I have seen a lot of fear that the US president is honest, not a hostage by the liberal mainstream, who represents a patriotic position, speaks clearly about America first.
‘Under President Trump, everything is under control’, said Szijjártó. ‘Since President Trump has left office, the entire global security situation has deteriorated. So, I mean, it’s an experience. If we base it on our experience, we say yes, from the perspective of US-Hungary relations, I think President Trump will bring more impetus, freshness, dynamism to this relationship. And I think that if President Trump is elected, I think the world has a good chance to be a more peaceful place compared to the current situation.
