Aaron Cartertwin sister, Angel Carter Conradsaddened but not surprised by him died in 2022 brother.
Angel, 36, sat with Taylor Lautner and his wife, also named Taylor Lautner, in his couple The Squeeze podcast to discuss his complex family dynamics and the deaths of his siblings. His sister, Leslie Carter, died at the age of 25 in 2012 from overdose.
“His death completely blindsided me. I didn’t see it coming,” Angel shared. “When he died, I was in therapy preparing for Harun’s death. I thought he was going to die.”
“Aaron’s Party” singer. died the following year, in 2022, due to the effects of taking alprazolam, which is a generic form of Xanax, and inhaling difluoroethane. He is 34 years old.
“I’m afraid they’re all in their 20s,” she said of Aaron’s death. “I knew this day was coming. And I think he knew it too, because he couldn’t — he couldn’t get out of it.”
Angel said he was the “peacemaker” in the family and tried to help Aaron with his addiction struggle over the years.
“They don’t want to hear from me,” he admitted. “I’m a sister, like, ‘Stay in your lane. You’re a sister. I don’t want to hear from you.’ Like, he needs his parents to step up.
Angel described a traumatic childhood, including allegations of sexual assault and substance abuse among family members. Another sister, Bobbi Jean Carter, died at 41 in 2023 from “intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl and methamphetamine.”
Angel’s surviving cousin is Nick Carter44, from the Backstreet Boys.
“We don’t have boundaries in our family,” he said. “I feel lucky that I didn’t let that experience define me, but my siblings didn’t have the same response and didn’t have anyone to go to and say, ‘Hey, this happened.’ ”
Aaron and Angel’s father, Robert Gene Carter, died in 2017 after apologizing to his daughter.
“He called me two years before he passed and apologized profusely, and cried, and just had a part,” Angel said. The Squeeze. “(He’s) like, ‘I’m a bad parent.’ … ‘I’m sorry for what I did.'”
He continued, “Just hearing from him is all I need.”
Angel, whose parents divorced in 2004, said she didn’t have the same conversations with her mother, Jane Carter, who is still alive.
“It’s a complicated relationship,” Angel said of her mother, noting that she has worked as an adult to understand and set boundaries in her life.
“I had to set boundaries for myself with my mother to protect my growth and healing and develop,” she explained. “So now, my relationship with my mother is just, now non-existent.”
He added that he was open to reconciliation if his mother “decided to change her life and own her actions.”
“I feel so sorry for all the family members because I know what it was like to grow up in that house,” he said. “I have a very deep understanding now of psychology and why these types of things happen, especially with addiction. There’s no justice to point the finger at anybody and be like, ‘You did this.’ No, it’s all about today and tomorrow and moving forward, and I want to move forward and stay alive and live in a place I don’t want to live.
Harun’s struggles have recently been explored in docuseries Fallen Idols: Nick and Aaron Carter. On top of Aaron’s personal tribulations, the show is also covered multiple allegations of sexual assault to Nick. Former boy band member has denied the allegations against himeven call one claim “factual impossibility.”
Angel and Aaron’s team as well recently released a single that I hadn’t heard before, “Recovery,” and the album of the same name. Proceeds from album sales benefit the Children’s Mental Health Foundation.
Aaron is saved by his 2-year-old son, Prince, who is the star of his relationship with his ex-fiancée, Melanie Martin.
