1996 comedy Congratulations Gilmore is back for another round.
Adam Sandlerwho starred and co-wrote the original, will reunite with friends and co-stars reprising their beloved roles, as well as new faces like Travis Kelce and Bad rabbit. The original sports comedy film follows Happy Gilmore, a hot-headed, unsuccessful ice hockey player who discovers a unique talent for golf—specifically, a powerful and unusual swing.
When his grandmother risks losing her house due to unpaid taxes, Happy enters a golf tournament to earn money. Despite his lack of experience and knowledge of golf etiquette, he quickly attracted attention for his raw talent. He teamed up with former pro Chubbs Peterson, who helped him improve his skills.
Happy became a sensation on the PGA Tour with his unconventional style and fun antics, but clashes with snobbish pro Shooter McGavin, who sees him as a threat. In the climactic match, Happy wins the Tour Championship, wins back his grandmother’s house and receives a vision of his late mentor, Chubbs.

Netflix has yet to release plot details for the sequel, but Sandler and his castmates have shared a few hints. In August 2024, Sandler confirmed that the film is about “an old man who used to play golf.” He also revealed that the character appears in flashbacks in the 1950s, although he could not reveal more.

Sandler mentioned that some of the production will take place in New Jersey, with filming taking place in Bergen, Essex, Monmouth, Morris, and Somerset counties from September to November.
When Will Happy Gilmore 2 Exempt?
The sequel does not yet have a release date, as it is still in the early stages of production.
On September 9, Sandler teased that a comedy production was underway by sharing a photo on Instagram of a cool hockey jersey. “Unfinished. The way I see it… we’re just getting started,” he wrote in the caption.
