We are used to potatoes in various forms from mashed, fried, baked and boiled. But your potatoes can sleep inside… that’s new.
If the idea of sleeping on a giant grilled spud is appealing to you, then we’ve got just the thing for you.
You’ll want to get cracking and book a trip to Idaho in the US, specifically Boise, where you’ll find The Big Idaho Potato Hotel.
This Airbnb on the farm has been created inside a giant potato (well, not the real thing), which was originally built for the Big Idaho Potato Tour and weighs six tons. I swear, we didn’t make this up.
During the giant spud tour, which is made of steel, plaster and concrete, led on the back of a semi-trailer truck visited 48 states in America to raise awareness about Idaho’s most famous vegetable.
The tour was only for one year, but it ended up being seven years, and when it finally ended, the potato was transformed into a very unique place, ‘planted’ in a field in South Boise with a stunning view of the Owyhee. mountains
The transformation was completed by Kristie Wolfe, a former Potato Truck Tour team member and tiny house builder, and the interior features a double bed, a rustic antler chandelier, two pink armchairs, shelves with some books, plus a small. sink, mini fridge, and record player.
It’s very stylish inside, it looks very comfortable, and it’s eco-friendly – it even has an outlet so you can use all your appliances inside the potato.
Outside you will find a silo that has been converted into a bathroom/spa, complete with a bathtub that allows you to ‘soak and look at the stars’. And if all this is not enough, The Big Idaho Potato Hotel comes with the cutest jersey cow that will be a fuzzy pet for your stay. All named Dolly.
The Airbnb description reads: ‘If you like the feeling of softness when you eat Idaho potatoes, you’ll love staying at a giant potato for a cozy, grown-up vacation for two!’
Staying at a unique hotel will set you back £145 per night, but it should be noted that if you book through Airbnb there are additional costs on top of this, including a £57 cleaning fee, an Airbnb service fee of £37, plus £16 for US tax. This takes the total up to £255 per night.
However, it may be worth it as it is listed as one of Airbnb’s ‘most liked’ homes, with an overall rating of 4.9 stars.
A five-star review by a guest named Rachel read: ‘My wife and I planned our entire vacation to spend the night on potatoes, all the way from Pennsylvania! I can’t wait to see the potatoes! Even my wife likes it!
‘The bathroom is amazing, huge bath and shower! Stop reading this review and order your special potato house!!!!!!’
As Sarah wrote: ‘We had a great night at The Potato Hotel. The room is fun and unique and we appreciate all the thoughtful touches inside. Comfortable, but good.’
And Erica added: ‘Definitely a fun experience that everyone should consider when visiting Idaho! This is a unique place that will come with photos and memories that you will cherish and brag about for a long time!’
