The 2024 Olympics begin today with rugby sevens and soccer competitions before a unique opening ceremony at night on the banks of the River Seine.
In total, 16 days of action will take place after the ceremony, with the athletes who win on the podium will be presented with medals made from fragments of the iconic Paris landmark: the Eiffel Tower.
Team GB is taking more than 300 athletes to the Games, but Charlotte Dujardin, a six-time Olympic medallist, has withdrawn from all competitions as the International Federation of Equestrian Sports (FEI) investigates videos from four years ago which show her making “judgmental errors” during a training session.
“What happened was completely out of character and does not reflect how I train horses or train my students, but there is no excuse,” he said in a statement. “I was very embarrassed and should have set a better example at the time.”
But elsewhere, there are high hopes for GB to add to their 22 golds from three years ago in Tokyo, especially with their rich body of athletics talent. Follow the latest news and build up to the Paris 2024 Olympics below.

Olympic sports without British athletes participating
A record medal haul may be on the way for Team GB as the Paris Olympics roll out in the French capital, but there are few Games venues where the Union flag will be conspicuous by its absence.
The tentacles of sustained podium success, spread freely with almost £250m of UK Sport funding for the Paris Olympic cycle alone, have yet to reach the wrestling mats of the Champ-de Mars-Arena or the glittering fencing grounds of the Grand Palais.

Team GB announced the flag bearers for the Olympic opening ceremony
Tom Daley claims he couldn’t have a better partner as he prepares to row a boat down the River Seine at last night’s Olympic opening ceremony.
Daley and rower Helen Glover will carry the British flag as the Games take place beneath Paris’ famous postcard landmark.
Daley, with one gold and three bronze from five Olympics, and Glover, a double gold medalist from three appearances, are popular choices to lead Team GB.
Daley, 30, is the first diver to win the award and Glover the first female rower, following Olympic icons Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Matthew Pinsent.

Meet Caden Cunningham, GB Olympic Taekwondo star and part-time model chasing gold at Paris 2024
If you haven’t heard of Caden Cunningham, chances are you will by the end of these Olympics.
Cunningham is square-jawed with sunken brown eyes in fur; broad shoulders and pure posture, standing 6ft-many. He’s a part-time model – GQ magazine recently dubbed him “the prince of the Olympics (and king of menswear)” – a full-time Taekwondo champion, and he loves the stage.
Cunningham is only 21 but has already won a string of medals and was crowned European heavyweight champion in May. He arrives in Paris this week as a serious contender for gold, armed with a self-assurance that practically kicks you in the face. “It doesn’t matter if I win or lose (in Paris),” he said, “I’m sure I can run for the next four years and I can speed up Taekwondo and I can conquer this heavyweight division. I’m starting to do that now.”

The untold story of ‘Chariots of Fire’ runner Eric Liddell – and why he’s the next biggest act
Paris, 1924. Eric Liddell has poised at the starting line of the 400m track, the Union Jack sitting proudly on his white running kit chest. It took him 47.6 seconds to make history that day – Liddell set a new Olympic and world record in the sprint. It was a race that would later be immortalized in the 1981 Oscar-winning film Chariot of Fire.
If you’ve seen the film, you’d be forgiven for thinking you know the other dramatic storylines of his short life – he’s particularly famous for his unsuccessful run at the Paris Olympics that year.
The Scot was favorite to take the gold medal for the 100m sprint, but when the event schedule was released, he dropped his place. “I don’t run on Sundays,” he said. His commitment to his religious beliefs comes first.
