Emma Raducanu is out of Wimbledon after losing to qualifier Lulu Sun on Center Court. Raducanu was going to enter the quarter-finals for the first time but lost to his opponent, world number 123, who won 6-2 5-7 6-2.
The 21-year-old was plagued by physical problems and called for a medical time-out after falling on the grass just moments after forcing the third set. Sun broke directly and in the middle of the barrage of winners, then to claim the biggest win in his life to reach the last eight.
Raducanu was the last English player in the singles. He has been pulled out of mixed doubles with Andy Murray on Saturday, thus bringing the two-time champion’s Wimbledon career to an abrupt end.
In the men’s singles draw, No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner defeated Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 to advance to the quarterfinals and is still on course for a semi-final match against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who was made to work hard in a 6-3, 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 victory over Ugo Humbert.

In court 2, Tommy Popel and Roberto Bautista Agut trying to make it to the quarter finals. The 12th seed Paul won the first set 6-2 and the second set only 6-6 so we had to tiebreak to decide. The winner of that match will face Carlos Alcaraz in the last eight.

Emma Raducanu is out of Wimbledon after a painful loss from qualifier Lulu Sun
At least Emma Raducanu knows how it feels to be an unknown, ignore the numbers and take to the big stage to attack with merciless intent. But at Wimbledon, the strategy that won Raducanu the US Open as an 18-year-old qualifier has now been used against him.
When Lulu Sun thundered another crushing forehand winner past Raducanu on Center Court, the world number 123 advanced to the quarterfinals after starting the tournament in the first round of qualifying two weeks ago.
The score 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 represents one story of this match, the first set was one-sided, the battle in the second, the third challenging after Raducanu slipped on the grass and called a medical timeout that was a bit stuck. he returned. But the winner’s count from 51 to Sun to Raducanu’s 19 tells another story.
The Sun, indeed, is on fire, as the last British player in the singles round was removed from Center Court by a barrage of forehand attacks from the 23-year-old only making his second appearance at the Grand Slam.
Here’s Jamie Braidwood’s snap report from Center Court:

GAMES, SETS and MATCHES! Emma Raducanu 2-6 7-5 2-6 Lulu Sun
And there it is! LULU SUN LEAVES EMMA RADUCANU IN WIMBLEDON LAST 16. The New Zealand qualifier, playing only his second grand slam, won 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.
Raducanu fought in the last game and got 30-30. He then remained in a long public meeting and a force breaking point but Sun dropped the floating ball and save it also. Brilliant forehand winner clip line and it’s now a matching point for the underdog.
But Raducanu produced an unbelievable cross court backhand winner keep! And England brings up more breaking point as the Sun goes long but again, his opponent controls the rally to keep.
Great point by Sun, included a powerful forehand put away to bring up a second match point and this time it’s not wrong! Raducanu went long and Lulu Sun screamed with joy as she reached the quarter finals!

Wimbledon 2024: Emma Raducanu 2-6 7-5 2-5 Lulu Sun* – BREAK!
Raducanu digs a handsome backhand winner down the line but Sun says what you can do, I can do better, and crunches the clean cross-court forehand winner for 30-30.
Now the backhand winner on the return of the serve and it’s a breaking point for New Zealanders. Needless to say, Raducanu could no longer be destroyed… And he escaped! Sun set the point up perfectly but then went long with a potential forehand winner! Break point stored but Raducanu squanders a couple of game points that came to him.
Now a second break point for Sun and oh dear, oh dear. It’s a double mistake. Horrible way for Sun’s hands double break and this Wimbledon campaign is over for Emma Raducanu.

Wimbledon 2024: *Emma Raducanu 2-6 7-5 2-4 Lulu Sun
A double fault opens up the latest service game for the Sun… Suddenly it’s 0-30 as the qualification goes too long. Chances for Raducanu?
The New Zealander fought back and put away an overhead smash for 30-30 before serving a big set up for the hold he took when firing a forehand at Raducanu at the net, who could not find the volley. This is a good response to potentially dangerous situations. Need 2 more stalls…

Wimbledon 2024: Emma Raducanu 2-6 7-5 2-3 Lulu Sun*
Raducanu played a tempting half-court moon ball but Sun could only blast it into the bottom of the net. He was really annoyed with himself there.
A solid hold for 15 for the Brit, finished with a forehand half court put away. Three chances for Raducanu to break Sun’s serve and save this match.
