The controversy started when the Maharashtra BJP uploaded a video of a blank copy of the Constitution at a Nagpur event presided over by Rahul Gandhi.
An intense war of words has erupted between the Maharashtra Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after the latter accused the Congress of distributing “blank copies of the Constitution” at an event presided over by Rahul Gandhi in Nagpur.
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha who addressed the “Samvidhan Samman Sammelan” in Nagpur on Wednesday said that he assured that the Congress will not let the Constitution be destroyed at any cost. He also carried a thin red-covered copy of the Constitution, which was the talk of the town.
Maharashtra BJP uploaded a video on the X platform, showing a book with ‘Constitution of India’ written on its cover having blank pages except for the preamble on the front. He also highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s red book at the Nagpur event.
“Congress wants to remove the Constitution of India. They want to remove all laws and articles formulated by Dr BR Ambedkar. That’s why Rahul Gandhi recently talked about removing reservations,” Maharashtra BJP said.

“Remember, the Constitution and our respected Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar is not just an election issue; it is the foundation of India and the life of every Indian. So, the people will teach the anti-constitutional Congress a lesson,” he said.
The Congress objected angrily, accusing them of fearing Rahul Gandhi’s event in Nagpur and spreading a false narrative. Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar said notepads were given to officials who attended the ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ and made reckless allegations showing lack of intelligence on BJP’s part.

Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Red Book’ At Nagpur Event Sparks Row
With less than two weeks left for the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, the war of words between the two major parties is intensifying with the BJP trying to portray Rahul Gandhi as anti-reservation and anti-Constitution.
The red copy of the Indian Constitution carried by Rahul Gandhi is the subject of political controversy in the poll-bound country as it is often associated with Marxist or communist ideology.
“What message does Rahul Gandhi want to convey by showing the red copy of the Constitution of India?” asked Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis at a campaign rally in Sangli district as he accused Congress leaders of building an “anarchist coalition”. “.
“My allegation two days ago against Rahul Gandhi has been proven about his penchant for ‘urban Naxals’. He is showing the red book and trying to get (political) help from urban Naxals and anarchists. Gandhi has ignored the country’s Constitution,” the BJP leader said.
In response, Maharashtra Congress Chief Nana Patole said the BJP was surprised that Gandhi’s event was “close to the fort” in Nagpur. “Fadnavis, nervously, made false allegations to undermine Rahul Gandhi. BJP found it impure. Those who oppose the Constitution have no right to decide whether the copy of the Constitution should be red, yellow or black. BJP and Fadnavis equate saving the Constitution with urban Naxalism?” said.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also slammed Fadnavis for his remarks, saying the Deputy CM is getting desperate. “This book that Mr. Fadnavis has rejected is the Constitution of India, the main architect of which was Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. This is the same Constitution of India that the RSS attacked in November 1949 because it was not inspired by Manusmriti,” he said.
“It is the same Constitution of India that the non-biological PM wants to change,” the Congress leader said. The party also asserted that the BJP’s strategy was to “end the Constitution by making false allegations against those who saved the Constitution”.
