Virginia authorities are investigating after a loaded gun was found in a 6-year-old’s backpack.

Here’s What Led to the Investigation by Virginia Authorities
According to USA Today, the discovery was made at Orange Elementary School on Monday, September 16. In a Facebook post, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said its office was contacted by a school staff member.
The staff reportedly notified authorities of a “firearm found inside the school.” According to the outlet, the call was reported around 12:50 p.m., and the school is in secure mode.
According to authorities, a loaded weapon was found inside a backpack. In addition, it was immediately confiscated by school administrators and school resource officers.
According to an Orange County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post, an investigation “revealed that a 6-year-old student was carrying a firearm on campus.” In addition, the authorities explained that no one was hurt during the ordeal. Also, no threats have been reported.
However, the office explained that the incident will be investigated.
“No arrests have been made, but the investigation is ongoing,” department explained. “All students at OES are safe at this time. The safety and security of students and school staff remains our top priority. “

According to USA Today, Dan Hornick, superintendent of Orange County Public Schools, issued a statement regarding the incident.
“It is important to recognize and appreciate the prompt, professional, and thorough steps taken by staff members and administrators at Orange Elementary School,” Hornick said. “Be diligent in preventing these situations from escalating … By working together, we can provide the safe and dynamic learning environment that our students deserve.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, September 17, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office released an updated statement regarding the incident and the investigation.
“… As parents and grandparents, we all have a responsibility as firearm owners to always secure firearms and be responsible. In addition, it is recommended to store ammunition in a separate place. Please check the backpack as well before your child goes out the door. Remember, you can never be too safe,” the statement said.
Ultimately, the office said the investigation remains ongoing.
14-Year-Old Boy Now Arrested For School Shooting In Georgia
Meanwhile, in Winder, Georgia, the community is recovering from the shooting at Apalachee High School. As The Shade Room previously reported, the shooting took place on September 4 and was reportedly started by a 14-year-old student named Colt Gray.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Colt allegedly used an AR-15 style rifle to kill the student and two teachers. In addition, nine others were reportedly injured in the ordeal, according to The Shade Room.
Since then, Colt has been charged with four counts of murder, while his father, Colin Gray, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, second-degree murder, and child cruelty, according to The Shade Room.
In May 2023, Colin and Colt have been interviewed about a 14-year-old boy suspected of making threats against the school. Despite this, authorities reportedly believe Colin knowingly allowed his son to have the deadly weapon.

Since the couple’s incarceration, Colt’s mother, Marcee, has written an open letter to the victims of the shooting. Meanwhile, Colin has made a special request from behind the bar while the teacher has broken his silence after being injured in a fatal incident.
