Former President Donald Trump was safe on Sunday after his campaign said he heard shots fired nearby.
CNBC has not independently verified whether shots were fired.
The noise was heard at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the Republican presidential nominee plays golf, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News on Sunday.
The former president was immediately taken to a safe location as a precaution, the source said.
The Secret Service said in a statement posted on X that it was “investigating protective incidents” involving Trump.
The initial phase of the police investigation has found no evidence that Trump was the target of the shooting and no injuries have been reported so far.
The event will not change Trump’s planned schedule next week, a source familiar with the matter told NBC News.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been briefed on the situation and will receive regular updates, the White House said in a statement.
“He is relieved to know he is safe,” the White House wrote.
Trump allies sent messages of support to the former president in response to the incident.
“Just spoke to President Trump. He is one of the strongest people I know,” wrote Sen. Lindsey Graham, RS.C., in post X. “He is passionate and more determined to save our country.”
Trump was injured in an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally in July.
