Former President Donald Trump made his final appeal to the nation in front of a crowd at Madison Square Garden last night after more than four hours of guest speaker appearances. The first guest, comedian and podcaster Tony Hinchcliffe joked that Puerto Rico is a “floating garbage island.” One of the speakers seemed to imply that Vice President Harris was a prostitute.
- 🎧 NPR’s Danielle Kurtzleben tells us Go up first there is a stark contrast between Harris’ message and Trump’s today. Harris highlights women who have disappeared or whose lives have been threatened by the overturning of Roe v. Wade. On the other hand, one of Trump’s openers made a joke about Taylor Swift being murdered by her boyfriend. That’s not a winning message for women voters — Trump’s demographic is still in the polls, Kurtzleben said. As the end of the campaign draws to a close, he is still rolling out new proposals including tax credits for family caregivers.
- ➡️ Harris promoted a new promise to boost Puerto Rico’s economy yesterdaycontrasted the message he made at Trump’s rally. Megastar Bad Bunny highlighted the promise to his 45 million Instagram followers.
Today, a top South Korean official is expected to give evidence to the NATO ally about North Korean soldiers who show up in Russia to fight in Ukraine. This comes after US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that at least 3,000 North Korean troops are in Russia, calling it a serious escalation. Today’s briefing aims to get all 32 NATO allies on the same page.
- 🎧 One of South Korea’s concerns is that North Korean forces are gaining battlefield experience, something they haven’t had since 1953.NPR’s Teri Schultz said. No one knows what else Russia and North Korea might exchange, such as ballistic missiles. NATO can issue statements about how this cooperation is unacceptable but it has no authority to tell North Korea and Russia what to do. South Korean intelligence will also inform European Union officials that the country has the ability to impose sanctions.
The 2024 World Series is coming to the East Coast. After the Los Angeles Dodgers won the first two games, the New York Yankees will now host games three and four and, if necessary, game five. The Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani injured himself in game two trying to steal second base, but team manager Dave Roberts told reporters yesterday that Ohtani has regained some normality and is expected to play.
- 🎧 “Historically the team that wins the first two games, unsurprisingly, continues win the series more often than not – 80% of the time,” said NPR freelance reporter Steve Futterman. But teams have repeatedly come back from 0-2 deficits. In fact, the last two times these two teams faced off in the World Series in 1981 and 1978 that’s exactly what happened. happened.

Pennsylvania is one of the biggest battleground prizes for presidential candidates. 19 electoral votes the state will likely to go the way to victory. With just days until the election, Harris and Trump have been barnstorming the country to rally support. To see how these messages resonate with citizens, Morning edition hosts Michel Martin and Steve Inskeep each lead teams across the country to speak with voters in Pittsburgh, Gettysburg, Allentown, Philadelphia and more. Pennsylvania is said to reflect a divided electorate: Some are inspired by Harris’ vision while others believe in Trump’s economic policies. And, there are some who are not sure about the candidate. The Internal Family System, or “work share,” has gained popularity. It’s the idea that we all have different parts, like sub-personalities. According to Richard Schwartz’s book There’s No Bad Partgetting to know more parts of us and treating them with compassion can help us manage life and stress better. Various studies have shown that IFS can benefit people with certain problems, including symptoms of PTSD and stress; pain, discomfort and depression from living with rheumatoid arthritis; and depression. Here’s how it works:
- 🧠 Start by listening to your part. Tune in to one sensation or image and ask what you want to know.
- 🧠 Try starting a dialogue with your part: What do you want me to know? Do you want to show me?
- 🧠 IFS teaches that we all have our share of isolationthat holds painful memories. These outcasts may remain locked inside, but recalling the experience can help lift the burden.
- 🧠 If you engage in negative talkusing the U-Turn technique: Take a moment to notice what is happening inside and look inside.
