Amy Robach and TJ Holmes that shows even more insight into their relationship — and candid about struggling with post-divorce shame and embarrassment in the midst of a burgeoning romance.
In the latest episode of her podcast, Amy & TJcouple reflected on how their relationship blossomed while dealing with a crumbling second marriage — and how long they went to avoid a secret divorce.
The couple had their first audience for the podcast, held live at Soho House in Lower Manhattan, and the duo explained how the drama that followed the revelation of their relationship was because they had tried so hard. pretending that the marriage is going well.
“We’re not seen together, so we’re seen, because that’s not really the life the world portrays,” Robach, 51, said. “Because we don’t live the life that everyone shares, we can’t expose our relationship.”
The secret of Robach and Holmes romance becomes public in November 2022 in the midst of their separation from their spouses – Robach’s second husband, Andrew Shue, and Holmes’ second wife, Marilee Fiebig.
Controversial romance cost the former GMA anchor work, but at the end of 2023, the couple began to show their relationship on the red carpet and decided he would share things from his perspective on the podcast.
Robach is the mother of two adult daughters – Ava and Annie – from her first marriage to Tim McIntosh. Holmes, meanwhile, shares his 11-year-old daughter, Sabine, with Fiebig, as well as daughter Brianna and son Jaiden from his first marriage to Amy Ferson.
“Between the two of us sitting on this stage, there are currently four divorces,” Holmes shared during the podcast. “We have families that seem perfect and lives that seem perfect, and we are guilty at times of putting up an image of our lives that we know is not true.”
As for Robach, he remembers one time, in 2022, when he accidentally posted a photo to Instagram depicting a happy moment of himself and Shue — but only because a friend texted him to ask if his marriage was okay. haven’t posted family photos recently.
“I didn’t want anyone to think anything was wrong, so I posted the picture,” Robach said. The problem is, it’s all wrong. When I sent that picture, I was almost sure my marriage was over. But I don’t want people to know.”
“I want my life to be what it looks like on Instagram,” Robach said.
For Holmes, the efforts he made to hide the fact that the marriage was over were even more difficult. Holmes said she made a special wedding ring while on the air, but would take it off in the dressing room after the broadcast.
“I don’t want people to know that I have another failed marriage,” Holmes explained. “I’m not ready for anyone to know.”
He even refused to update his address with the show, so when the network sent a car to pick him up in the morning to take him to the studio, the car did not go to his current address but to his home.
“For a month, I did not update my address. I would leave the new house at 3:45 am, and I would walk downtown for 15-plus minutes to the place I had moved out of,” Holmes remembers. “I’ll sneak behind a car or behind a building … try to make sure (the driver) doesn’t know anything’s going on.”
One of the elements that makes the divorce so difficult is the fact that they have children – who will be directly affected by the new life situation and the general events surrounding the celebrity parents.
“Anyone who has been in a failed relationship, and especially a failed marriage, knows that when kids are involved, it’s a whole different game,” Robach said. “Part of it is ego, wanting to keep it private, but a lot of it is also protecting your children and not wanting them to be exposed to the publicity that’s going on.”
“Ironically, this all blew up in our faces because we weren’t transparent about what was going on in our relationship before this relationship started,” she added. “So everything has been completely blown out of proportion.”
After the famous divorce, his ex-husband, Shue and Fiebig, have found solace in each other and dating.
A source told ET in February“Andrew and Marilee take it slow in their new romance, and try to lay low in the middle of very common breakups. Both find comfort in each other, and have enjoyed getting to know each other away from the noise.”
“At first they were not interested in each other but bonded over the trauma of their respective breakups,” added the source.
Another source told ET, “Andrew Shue and Marilee Fiebig’s relationship has surprised some close to them. They both remain under the radar and are happy together.”
Robach and Shue finalized their divorce in March 2023, while Holmes get divorced from Fiebig in October 2023.
