Texas State Representative Shawn Thierry has officially left the radical left-wing Democratic Party to join the Republican Party.
This pivotal decision comes when more and more Americans are awakening to the extreme ideology pushed by the radical left.
“I left the left and joined the party of family, faith, and freedom,” Thierry said in a statement on Friday.
The statement resonates with countless citizens who are fed up with Democrats’ relentless push for policies that undermine traditional values and threaten the well-being of families.
Thierry left after he faced strong backlash from his own party for standing up against his radical agenda.
Thierry took to X to share his decision:
As a woman, mother, and member of parliament, I have dedicated my life to upholding values that strengthen families and uplift communities. After much reflection, prayer, and soul-searching, I have come to a decision that is in line with the core values and interests of my beloved country.
For my entire adult life, I have voted to be a Democrat. I was raised in a household with wonderful parents who believed in the Democratic Party as the party of the people – a beacon of justice and opportunity for all. But as the years have passed, I have watched with dismay as the party I once knew has drifted away from where it came from. It has become almost unrecognizable—radical and increasingly incompatible with the values that millions of Americans hold dear every day.
The Democratic Party has veered left, so deep into the progressive abyss, that it is now championing policies that I cannot, in good conscience, support policies like promoting gender reassignment for children during vulnerable stages of life, and dismantling Title IX protections . for women in sports.
This was not the party I grew up with. I have witnessed firsthand how today’s so-called “liberals” stifle intelligent debate, suppress dissent with an iron fist – demanding blind loyalty to an ideology, which must be “obeyed or banished.” This is not the Democratic Party he once supported and represented.
The famous poet Maya Angelou powerfully said, “If you know better, you will be better.” And today, at a time like this, I officially announce that I am leaving the ranks and grudges of the Democratic Party elite.
I now stand with the party of Lincoln, the party that fought to preserve our Union and fight to end the cruelty of slavery.
In 2024, the Republican Party wins economic empowerment, by investing in Historically Black colleges and universities like the one I am proud to graduate from. This is the party of parents, believing that they have the fundamental right to determine the best educational environment for their children to learn, grow, and succeed.
It is the party that fosters prosperity and entrepreneurial opportunity, so that small business owners can not only survive, but thrive, fulfilling the promise of the American dream.
Mothers across our country of all backgrounds, races, and communities know that it is our sacred duty to preserve the chastity of our children, to protect our children from sexual abuse, and to be sterile. To honor the universal truth, and uphold the biological rights of women as defined by science, nature, and common sense.
I left the left because the left has abandoned Democrats who feel betrayed by a party that has lost its commitment to hard-working families.
I know that by making this choice, my choice, I will face relentless attacks, criticism, and mischaracterization. But I will fulfill my faith. The Bible reminds us in Job 13, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust him.”
So, I believe that God will guide and cover me as I enter a new chapter in my life. It is time to move our consciousness from the distraction of personal to the essence of real wisdom.
I will not be alone; I will be with millions of brave women and men of good conscience, who are willing to put people through political ideology.
So, I will continue to be a change maker and champion for children. Criticized, but not silenced, I will use my voice to amplify the voices of women everywhere – women willing to make waves in America.
Together, we can nurture and protect our children by creating a safer and brighter future for them. Together, we can restore America’s spirit, security, and soul.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott welcomed Thierry with open arms, insisting that his decision to switch parties reflected a critical reality: “The Democratic Party’s radical left agenda is out of sync with the majority of Americans.”

Texas State Representative Shawn Thierry, D-Houston, announced today that he is leaving the left-wing Democratic party and will now become a Republican.
“The Democratic Party has gone so far left, so deep into the progressive abyss, that it is now championing policies I cannot, in good conscience, support policies like promoting sex reassignment to vulnerable children and dismantling Title IX protections for women in sports. That’s why I left the left and joined the party of family, faith, and freedom,” said Thierry.
“Now I stand with my colleagues, friends, neighbors, women, and mothers in the Republican Party.”
Texas Governor Greg Abbott applauded Thierry’s announcement, saying that Republicans would welcome him with open arms.
“Today, I am proud to welcome Representative Shawn Thierry to the Republican Party of opportunity, individual liberty, and economic prosperity,” said Governor Abbott.
“Representative Thierry served in the Texas Legislature for four terms until the Democratic Party abandoned him after he gave a 12-minute speech from the House floor in support of a law I signed to protect Texas children. His decision to switch parties shows that the radical leftist agenda of the Democratic Party out of step with the majority of Americans.I look forward to continuing to work with Representative Thierry to build a bigger and better Texas for generations to come.
Thierry has served in the Texas House for eight years as one of the more influential Democratic members. Currently serving his fourth term in the Texas Legislature, he serves as Vice Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and serves on the House Energy Resources Committee.
Despite numerous legislative victories on issues such as maternal mortality, protection of the elderly, and anti-human trafficking, Thierry attracted the attention of the Democratic machine in the most recent legislative session when he supported a bill banning cross-sex hormones and sex-change surgery. little boy He soon faced a host of Democratic opponents and the wrath of the Democratic establishment, which spent nearly a million dollars in campaign funds on his behalf.
In the end, Thierry was defeated in a run-off by LGBTQ activists.
“I have witnessed firsthand how the left stifles intelligent debate, silences it, and demands blind loyalty to an ideology that is anti-family and anti-child,” said Thierry. “If you question it, or don’t agree, they’ll disqualify you. That’s why so many former Democrats are planning to vote Republican in November.
Thierry, a Baptist who was raised Catholic, is an alumnus of Howard University and Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law. He has been a licensed attorney for 27 years and lives in Houston, Texas.
