Rob Lowe and his son John Owen have pursued a passion project in the entertainment industry together, but son Matthew created one of his father’s most famous shows.
He didn’t catch the acting bug, though, and was, in fact, “annoyed and uncomfortable” while filming “The West Wing” scenes with his father.
Matthew admitted he’s still a fan of political drama when he joined his father’s SiriusXM podcast, “Literally with Rob Lowe,”

Lowe appeared in the first four seasons of “The West Wing” said White House deputy communications director Sam Seaborn. He left the show in 2002 and Seaborn was written out of “The West Wing” by running for Congress in California.
“I’m literally the biggest fan in the family of ‘The West Wing.’ I’ve seen it many times, this season,” Matthew said.
“You’re in. Oh, you’re in there,” Rob said before Matthew added, “That’s my claim to fame. It was a famous episode, wasn’t it?”

“Not only that, Matthew, you’re on ‘The West Wing,’ you’re on, arguably, without a doubt, ‘West Wing’ fans will tell you that it’s in the top five ever made and it’s their favorite episode ever . ” Rob assured his son “The episode is called ‘Noël,’ and it’s an episode that Richard Schiff deserves. It’s a Christmas episode and there are carolers in one of the rooms from ‘The West Wing.’
Matthew joked, “Don’t give too much away. I want to see if the audience can figure out which one is me,” before asking his father how old he was when they filmed the episode.

“Seven?” Rob guessed before Matthew jumped in with, “I’m really young. I have a memory of living today.”
He added, “I remember being really, really annoyed and uncomfortable because I had to wear dress shoes, and they were very tight and uncomfortable in dress shoes and that’s a small snippet memory of that day, and also playing chess with Martin Sheen.
“I mean, that’s a great memory. You got to play chess with President Bartlet,” Rob said.
Last year, the Brat Pack member admitted he quit the role of a lifetime because he felt “undervalued” while working on the series.

“When I talk to actors who complain about, you know, relationships on the show, things happen,” he said during an appearance on Stitcher Studios’ “Podcrushed.” “It happens in any workplace. You can be in an environment where people sandbag you, want to see you fail, disrespect you, whatever — and every time I share my story, people are like, ‘I’m not going to share my story. alone again.'”
He added, “They will make your hair stand on end and there are some of them that I wrote about. I show some of them in my book, but I purposely did not show half of the others because it would make the people involved look very bad. If I don’t want to do it for them. “
At that time, Lowe’s exit was marketed as amicable and pinned in the storyline of the fizzling out character.
“So, I didn’t have a good experience,” he said on the podcast. “Trying to make it possible and trying to make it possible and trying to make it possible, then what happened, my children have reached a certain age where I can see them have a boyfriend or first friend and in a relationship that they become a popular girl, everyone likes her, she’s really nice.

“It’s very popular, it’s amazing, it’s amazing, but I know what it’s like, and if I can’t walk away from it, how can I empower my children to walk away from it?”
Lowe’s too reflected when he left and how it affected him.
“I walked away from the most popular girl in school, but I also knew it was an unhealthy relationship, and it was the best thing I ever did,” she said.
Despite feeling “undervalued” on set, Lowe appeared in two episodes in the final season. He also joined the cast for an HBO special in 2020.
