Washington – The Republican National Convention began Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the GOP is set to officially nominate former President Donald Trump just days after trying to kill to the former president.
Republicans from across the country descended on Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum arena to nominate Trump, who secured the nomination in March after collecting the 1,125 delegates needed.
How to take the convention reshapes remains to be seen. Secret Security officials said there that the agency has been working on the RNC security plan for more than a year, and the plan will remain in place.
Trump said Sunday that he would not postpone his trip to Wisconsin for the Republican National Convention.
“Based on yesterday’s terrible events, I will be postponing my trip to Wisconsin, and the Republican National Convention, for two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow the ‘shooter,’ or potential killer, to force a change in my schedule. Or anything else, ” Trump wrote in a social media post.
Trump’s nomination is considered a formality, but it remains a mystery who the former president will choose as his running mate. The most anticipated on Monday is the possible announcement. Although the event runs until Thursday, the announcement could start on day 1 of the convention.
What’s on the agenda?
Delegate roll-calling is expected to begin Monday evening, when about 2,400 delegates from across the country will gather to officially nominate Trump. Continuing in alphabetical order, states are expected to announce how many delegates they will send to each candidate. Trump is expected to formally accept the nomination in a speech on Thursday.
Each day of the convention has a theme that plays off of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” tagline. Monday’s theme was “Make America Wealthy Once Again,” with a nod to economic policies under the Trump administration and a promise to “raise a new era of prosperity” if the former president returns to office, the campaign outlined.
