Richard Simmons‘ The family responded to the late gardener’s claim that he had been forced to relinquish his role as trustee.
On Wednesday, September 25, Teresa Reveles filed a petition stated that in the “evil plan,” Richard’s brother, Lenny Simmonsand his wife, Cathyasked her to sign documents that revoked her role as guardian as she grieved the loss of her boss, who died on July 13.
Reveles said he signed the title because he feared losing the right to the inheritance Richard had left him. He sought reinstatement as trustee and requested legal action to prevent Lenny from using Richard’s image and likeness for personal gain.
“Richard’s messages are always joyful and positive. He will be very sad to know about Teresa’s greed and insulted that he will reduce thirty years of friendship in a public way. His actions threaten to destroy Richard’s incredible legacy, which we are working hard to preserve,” his family said in a statement late Wednesday, per people.
“Richard took excellent care of Teresa and made sure that even after her death she was well cared for,” the statement said. “She is an important beneficiary of his will. She made an informed decision to decline to be a trustee, which does not affect her status as an beneficiary.
The family called Reveles’ accusations “true and manifestly false, and we have advised them of these facts. Teresa’s request to be reinstated as guardian was not denied because guardians must work together for the best interests, and Teresa has shown that by her actions does not have that interest.
He said that “two months after (Richard) died, he stayed at his house, even though he had his own house, and he had tried to charge the house for living expenses. We have also learned that a documentary was sent to Netflix that identified Teresa as the main source and contributors and we believe it will tarnish Richard’s legacy.
In conclusion, he said, “it appears that Teresa intends to spend the assets of the property, which will be used by the heirs, to pursue a useless and futile trial. When the court is informed of the facts that have been presented to Teresa’s lawyer, we believe that the court will deny the petition.
Richard died at his home in Los Angeles just one day after his 76th birthday. ABC News reported at the time that the Los Angeles Police Department had responded to a call from Richard’s housekeeper. Richard was pronounced dead at the scene after officers arrived at his home.
Richard’s official cause of death this was later revealed as “accidental because of the pain of a recent fall and heart disease as a contributing factor,” a spokesperson for the Simmons family stated at the end of August.
In July, Reveles told people he had discovered Richard in the bedroom with his hands balled into fists.
“When I looked at him, he looked at peace,” Reveles recalled. “That’s how I knew it was a heart attack. I had a heart attack a few years ago, and my hand did the same thing.
He added, “He died happy.”
