Earl Charles Spencer and his wife Karen Spencer have decided after almost 13 years of marriage.
The brother of the late Princess Diana announced the split to The Mail on Sunday.
“It’s very sad,” the British aristocrat said of the divorce. “I just want to serve all my children, and my grandchildren, and I want Karen to be happy in the future.”

A spokeswoman for Spencer did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
According to the outlet, Earl Spencer’s 9th marriage to the Countess of Spencer ended in the middle of writing his memoir, “A Very Private School.” The couple first announced their split privately to staff at Althorp House, Charles’ ancestral home, in April.
The outlet also reported that Spencer “became close” to Norwegian archaeologist Dr. Cat Jarman. They “look very happy together” but it’s still “early days.”
Jarman hosts the history podcast “The Rabbit Hole Detectives” with Spencer and Rev. Richard Coles.
Spencer and Karen, 52, said “I do” at Althorp House in June 2011. The wedding took place two months after Spencer’s nephew, Prince William, married Kate Middleton. Althorp House, the historic English estate where Spencer and her sister Diana grew up, was the place where they got married. She shared her 12-year-old daughter, Charlotte Diana, whose name pays tribute to her royal aunt.
Karen, a social entrepreneur, is the founder and CEO of Whole Child International. She has two daughters from her previous marriage to Hollywood producer Mark Gordon.

Spencer, who has been married three times, shares four children with his first wife, Victoria Lockwood, and two children with his second wife, Caroline Freud.
In her memoir, “A Very Private School,” Spencer revealed how she was sexually abused as a child. For years, Spencer kept the secret. But after two failed marriages, Spencer knew she needed help.
“I was so confused by endless romantic disasters, unhappiness and two divorces,” she previously told Fox News Digital. “I also want to do something for my children. Actually, this is a spur. I want to be better for them, so that I can be a better father. I don’t know if they agree that I manage, but there is Yahoo and me, if I had not become a parent, I would probably have just gone in … coping (Said out) it was surprisingly helpful, but sent me to a more honest therapy course.”
Spencer said she’s been “really cornered” for the past three to four months, especially after writing her book. He still does “very effective” post-traumatic stress disorder treatment, as well as Tai Chi and breathing exercises.
“I have a lot of support techniques to try and get a better place,” he said.

After the book’s publication, Spencer told People magazine that Karen “has been supportive.”
“I think it’s very difficult for him to have a wife who went through the deepest therapy for four and a half years on a very difficult basis,” she told the outlet. “And he supports the idea that I do.”

“I think they always hope to come out happier and healthier,” she said. “And that seems to be the case. So, I’m grateful for him standing by me when I was going through this, which I now realize was an important process.”
