The main story in the The Times is a call from a senior economic adviser to Donald Trump for Britain to align itself with the US in trade and as the title puts it “dump the socialist EU”. Stephen Moore told the newspaper that Trump has a mandate to impose tariffs on imports to protect US industries and jobs, which could harm Britain. He said Britain had to decide whether it wanted to move to what he called the “European Socialist model” or a free trade agreement with the US.
Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch is challenged Sir Keir Starmer on hate laws, according to the Daily Telegraph. He told the newspaper that legislation should be reviewed to protect freedom of speech. The paper highlighted her comments about a columnist, Allison Pearson, who is being investigated by police for social media posts allegedly inciting racial hatred. Badenoch said it was “very wrong” for the police to visit the journalist’s home because he had expressed his opinion.

Elon Musk’s wealth is expected to hit a new high according to FT Weekend. It reports that two private companies -Space X and Artificial Intelligence startup xAI – will see a multimillion-dollar jump in their valuation as investors race to support their business interests. The FT said Mr Musk’s relationship with President-elect Trump had also given a significant boost to shares in electric car company Tesla.
And Sun and Daily Mirror two pictures of Davina McCall on the front page when reporting on the presenter’s surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. At Sun said the 57-year-old had been “overwhelmed with the support of fans and celebrities “after posting a video saying “pray for me”. The Mirror quotes her partner, Michael Douglas, who said according to the surgeon, the six-hour operation was “textbook”.
