The Milestone Medal is the perfect way to mark the direction of Team GB in their pursuit of the premier race
For the second Olympics, the British men’s team finished the race in a less than optimal position.
But where Charlie Tanfield’s crash in Tokyo three years ago was a symbol of the struggle in British Cycling’s premier event, this is a very different scenario.
When Ethan Hayter blew up with 300 meters to go in the Olympic final to end any hopes of going to Australia to take the gold, there was a tinge of disappointment.
But the team of Hayter, Tanfield, Ethan Vernon and Dan Bigham did everything in their power and came very close to the world record holder.

The greatest Olympian you’ve never heard of is retiring — and it’s a good one
Greco-Roman wrestling may seem ancient and impenetrable to the layman – huge, powerful men locking onto each other and maneuvering each other around the mat in some kind of massive embrace.
But when the Cuban Mijain Lopez, known as the ‘Herradura Giant’, in the arena, it quickly becomes very simple.
Even at age 41, Lopez’s superhuman strength is evident. He decides how the war will be fought and everyone else must participate.
In Paris on Tuesday, he made history. No one, not Carl Lewis or Al Oerter or even Michael Phelps has won the same individual event in five consecutive Olympics. Until now.

2024 Olympics: Men’s 300m steeplechaser taken to hospital
World record holder Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia tripped over a barrier and fell on the last lap.
He was in severe pain, lying motionless as medical staff helped him, before leaving the stadium in a neck brace on a stretcher,
“After falling in the 3,000m steeplechase, Lamecha Girma immediately received treatment from the on-site medical team. Our thoughts are with him and we send him our best wishes for a speedy recovery,” Paris 2024 said in a statement.
“Paris 2024 is in contact with the Ethiopian NOC to keep them updated on the situation.”

Noah Lyles chases Olympic history in 200m final – can anyone stop him?
Breaking news: Noah Lyles just lost the 200m race. Lyles is a two-time long-distance world champion and has won the last 26 races. But on a still warm evening at the Stade de France, the American sprint king was beaten in this Olympic semi-final by African champion Letsile Tebogo.
It may have been more accurate for Lyles to finish second, rather than lose, as he qualified for Thursday night’s final. Both men went up easily in the last 20m with the finish and energy to spare. But they were flat out around the corner, where Tebogo burned into the lead, and perhaps it was a sign that Lyles would not have all the way himself.

The first event of the morning was the women’s marathon swim.
It takes place in the Seine, there are six laps, now it’s over half an hour and in the second lap.
Great Britain’s Leah Crisp was in ninth place, but more importantly she remained part of the main group that had fallen behind the rest of the group.

Yesterday at the Olympics
Charging like a train, while rocking from side to side, Hall somehow conjured up the fourth fastest time in history. He was only fourth in the race with 100m to go, but he grabbed victory from Hudson-Smith in 43.40 seconds while Zambia’s Muzala Samukonga took bronze.
