A 55-year-old tourist was attacked with a knife while walking on the sidewalk in an upscale neighborhood in New York City on Wednesday, police said.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to Fox News Digital that the daytime stabbing happened at approximately 10:23 a.m. in a neighborhood on the Upper West Side.
Police said the 55-year-old’s left ear and left cheek were cut off in the apparently random attack. The victim was transported to a local hospital after being stabbed.

The suspect fled after the attack, authorities said. Surveillance footage, obtained by Fox News Digital, shows the suspect fleeing the scene. He was spotted with a knife.
The NYPD continues to investigate the incident.
The stabbing came just two days after a knife-wielding man was accused of killing three people on Friday.
Police arrested Ramon Rivera, 51, a career criminal, earlier this week after he allegedly went on the run unprovoked stabbing spree across Manhattan.

Rivera, who was homeless, had eight prior arrests and had been released from jail just weeks before the fatal knife attack.
The stabbings also come in the background of the focus of District Attorney Alvin Bragg last year in prosecuting President-elect Trump, who was convicted of 34 counts of crimes related to the payment of hush money to porn star Stormy Daniels.
Ray Kelly, former New York City police commissioner and CEO of The Guardian Group, told “Fox & Friends” co-host Brian Kilmeade whose soft-on-crime approach Bragg has blocked the city.

“Mr. Bragg is unreasonable,” he told Kilmeade on Wednesday. “He … believes in the most radical approach. In fact, the first day in office, he gave a manifesto about what he will not do. One of them is that he will not arrest people. for fare-beating, which, by the way, the MTA said that’s where they lost three quarters of $1 billion this year, and that’s why we have a lot of trouble because of Attorney General Bragg.
The Manhattan district attorney campaigned to prosecute Trump, saying in an interview in 2021 that he personally planned to focus on Trump’s case as soon as he became DA.
“This is clearly an important case, one that the DA should take seriously,” Bragg said at the time, according to CNN.
NYPD INTERROGATION VIDEO OF DANIEL PENNY RELEASED IN SUBWAY CHOKEHOLD EXAMINATION
Stabbing also comes as Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old Marine Veteran, is on trial facing charges of killing someone to defend New York on the uptown F train last year.
Penny is fighting manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of 30-year-old Jordan Neely, a homeless railroad worker, for placing Neely in a fatal chokehold.
