During the NATO summit in Washington on July 10, member states became irrevocably opposed to China’s communist adventurism around the world by declaring and identifying Beijing as Russia’s enabler and supporter.
NATO has drawn a red line, and now there is no ambiguity that the bloc considers the PRC an instigator of world tensions and conflicts.
China Identified as Reason Russia Is Still Standing
NATO came out swinging at China and said more in the communiqué:
“We call on the PRC, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council with specific responsibility to uphold the goals and principles of the UN Charter, to end all material and political support for the Russian war effort. This includes the transfer of dual-use materials, such as weapons components, equipment, and raw materials that are inputs to the Russian defense sector. The PRC cannot enable the largest war in Europe in recent history without affecting its interests and reputation.
In response, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pushed back and called NATO’s statement “baseless accusations.” He warned NATO not to create tension with Beijing.
The reality is that China is the largest producer of 152 mm and 122 mm artillery ammunition, 7.62Ă—39 machine gun ammunition, drones, spare parts for all Russian aircraft, missiles, and other vital war materials that Russia needs to continue its Ukrainian war effort. No one else is making the equipment, weaponry, and supplies that Russia needs.
Chinese Ship Sails Through US Territory; Beijing is sending troops to Europe
NATO’s claims are based on concerns that the Chinese regime is directly involved in the affairs of NATO member states. Beijing wasted little time adding to this perception with two provocative actions.
Almost immediately after the release of NATO’s statement about China, the naval forces of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) carried out an “innocuous crossing” over US territory, the Aleutian Islands chain. Four PLAN ships passed two points in the chain and then departed.
“Innocent parts” are defined in Article 19 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and are allowed with certain limitations. The PLAN is wily and pushes the envelope of Section 2(d) of the convention, which prohibits transit for propaganda purposes. In one of the first projections of China’s military power directly into Europe and a direct combat zone in Ukraine, China is distributed The Special Operations Task Force went to Belarus in mid-July to support “Assault Eagle 2024.” Belarus has been a major staging and operating base for Russian forces fighting Ukraine and is the closest point to the Russian-held sovereign region of Kaliningrad on the Baltic Sea.
4 Pacific Nations Approach NATO Fold
The result of the NATO conference was the elevation of four countries as NATO partner countries. NATO announced “enhanced political dialogue and engagement” with Australia, Japan, South Korea, and New Zealand. This does not mean that these countries are on a path like Sweden and Finland to join NATO as full partners, but their relationship with NATO is a strategic counter message to the Chinese regime. The four countries issued a communique admonishing North Korea for relying on China for machine tools and factory equipment, but it was a barb in Beijing.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg signaled further to the Chinese regime by saying: “We must work together more closely to maintain peace and protect the rules-based international order. … Our security is not regional. It is global.”
NATO’s determination to respond to the efforts of communist China’s evil campaign around the world has now been established.
