The mother of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star Taylor Frankie Paul is speaking out about the “hypocritical” backlash her family received after the trailer for the upcoming Hulu reality series.
In a TikTok video posted earlier this week, Liann May spoke about the criticism she saw online and explained why it “contradicted” the beliefs of the Mormon church.
“What really irritated me recently, I saw all the backlash from them, the comments they received on social media… I recently received one that I thought was very interesting and contradicted,” he said in the video. “He said that we, my family and I, should stay away from the church and become Mormons because we are not Mormon enough.”

“So before people have to go out and judge others or say that they are not Mormons, or that they are not active enough, maybe they should look at themselves and see if they are doing things that are right for the church,” he concluded.
May and representatives for the show did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Followers chimed in in the comments, praising Mei for her courage to speak out.
“Let me tell you, a lot happens in the church and a lot of sins are committed every day. No one is perfect.”
“Preach! We don’t sit in church on Sunday because we’re perfect, we sit there because we’re all broken!,” commented one fan.
“This is so true I wish more people knew,” wrote another. “And not to mention the show hasn’t even aired yet. So who knows!”
The comments came shortly after the trailer for the upcoming reality show aired.
Paul sent shockwaves through the TikTok world in 2022 when he announced his divorce from ex-husband Tate Paul and shared more about his “soft swing” lifestyle, which included some of his friends featured in the video.

“Well, I was like, f— this,” Paul said before a video montage played clips from his TikTok days. “I made MomTok. It’s a group of Mormon moms who make TikToks. It started with Whitney (Leavitt), Mayci (Neeley), Mikayla (Matthews) and me.”
“We’re breaking the norm,” Leavitt said. “We’re trying to change the stigma of gender roles in Mormon culture.”
