The three words every football fan wants to hear after opening weekend are “Monday Night Football.”
Yes, MNF is back tonight with the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers (hopefully for more than four games) visiting the Super Bowl loser 49ers.
I hope you East Coast fantasy football guys don’t need too many points tonight, because I know I hate staying up late just waiting for a needed touchdown, only for your guy to blow your chances 1- 0.
Anyway, I’m here to see the REAL gambling side of things tonight…
FIRST TOUCHDOWN
Rodgers has spent a year trying to prove his middle-aged arm can still do what he did in 18 seasons in Green Bay.
But remember, they didn’t use much in the first three years, so they’ll tell you that the mileage numbers are just conspiracy theories and they still have a lot of life left.
The skeptic, on the other hand, might say that the 2020-21 season, when he made 85 touchdowns and only nine interceptions, was a strange occurrence, because he averaged two years before that spell and in 2022, but in general, not much will doubt this man when he is healthy.
One thing you can’t doubt is that they’ve been in love with their number one receiver for years, and the man for the Jets is the talented Garrett Wilson, who has two 1,000-yard seasons to open his NFL career with Zach Wilson. Trevor Siemian … well, you know.
I think Rodgers will be looking for Wilson early and often tonight, so I’ll definitely put some money on him.

With the quarterback situation in 2023, it’s hard to take away from the 7-10 campaign the Jets put together other than a quality defense that ranks high in most categories, despite being on the field for minutes.
While they have allowed more than 30 points four times since Week 11 and as a tired unit, the Jet D still ranks 1st in the NFL in yards per play allowed.
Yes, the 49ers ranked as the second-ranked offense last season, but WR Brandon Aiyuk isn’t expected to take on the full play load tonight, and Christian McCaffrey will face a lot of stacked boxes early in the contest.
The fact over/under 43 tells me the bookies expect Jet to make this one close. 24-21 maybe?
One more stat: the 49ers were just 5-8 ATS as a 4-point or more favorite last season.

There’s a reason he’s the number one draft pick in every fantasy league, even if every opponent knows what he can do.
The Jets will certainly try to limit the damage the former Stanford legend inflicts on him, but I expect he will still manage to find the end zone and get enough receiving yards to make this little parlay worth looking at.
