Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson) has hit a low on Coronation Street following her sister Toyah’s (Georgia Taylor) cancer diagnosis.
Still firmly under the spell of sinister cult leader Rowan Cunliffe (Emrhys Cooper), Leanne has well and truly alienated herself from her family.
This comes just days after Toyah was told she had germ cell ovarian cancer, and would need surgery and possibly chemotherapy.
At first, Leanne sobbed into her sister’s arms, but before long she was warped in reality seeing her make an unusual link between her past trauma and her current condition.
After Nick (Ben Price) – who has had a relationship with Toyah – leaped to the rescue, Leanne agreed to rein in talking about the Altovalent Institute.
In tonight’s episode (July 24), Toyah catches her talking to an AI version of Oliver about the situation, and Leanne reaches out to mum Janice (Vicky Entwistle) to tell her.
With emotions running high, she says she prefers to deal with the situation herself, something Leanne takes literally when Rowan instructs her to follow his advice and cut off the negativity.
Later, at the hospital, the nurse notices that Toyah is married and asks if her husband provides a good support network, not knowing that Imran has died.
In the corridor outside, he broke down and hugged Nick, with two quickly realizing that one of Rowan’s cronies was watching from a distance and took photos of both sides – threatening to expose the relationship.
Enraged, Nick entered the Chariot Square Hotel to confront him and punch him hard in the nose. Hotelier Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) refuses to call the police, but Rowan says she doesn’t want to press charges.
Leanne urges Nick to apologise, and thinks that maybe Toyah was mistaken through the photos that have been taken.
Back in Victoria Court, Leanne insists she will withdraw emotionally and actively disconnect from Toyah while she is receiving treatment.

beneath.
After some concerns from Toyah that a short fling could be on the brink of light, she warned Nick to start acting more like a brother-in-law. However, it seems that her emotions run deeper – she tells her older brother David (Jack P. Shepherd) that she loves him.
How long did it take Rowan to tell them all?
