It’s been 27 years and we’re still fascinated by the rather small door on the Titanic but Kate Winslet has some shocking news.
The controversial scene has heated debate over the years with fans wondering what could have been if only Rose (Winslet) had left the space for a lover.
It’s great that director James Cameron even made a documentary exploring whether there was enough room for Jack at the door.
Tragically, Jack, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, jumps into the sea but in reality the water is only ‘waist high’.
The 48-year-old star even admitted that her friends may have PTSD because they are often asked about the door.
‘Yeah, it’s an awkward tank,’ she revealed during a Q&A for Lee’s new film. ‘Because of the bubble burst, it was waist high at the time.’
As the audience at the New York screener was shocked by the bombshell, Kate continued: ‘So at first, I was like, “Can I pee?” Then I got up, went out the door, walked to the edge of the tank, 20 feet away and I literally had to fling my leg over and climb up and come and come back in the door again.’
‘It’s awful,’ added the Holiday icon as she spoke about her toilet complications to Josh Horowitz on the show on Monday, September 23.
“Well, yeah,” Kate continued. ‘So it’s waist high. Leo I’m afraid to say this kneeling down.
‘I don’t have to say anyways, Jimmy Cameron will be ringing me.’
Dropping some extra secrets, he revealed that for the last 22 minutes, everyone had been ‘looped’ by the sound of water from the tank.
He explained: ‘Actually, what’s amazing about the edge of the tank is the infinity tank. So there’s a constant flow of water and you can hear the constant sound of the water.’
While it’s currently inconceivable that anyone else could take on the iconic role, James admits Gwyneth Paltrow or Winona Ryder could be Rose.
‘It seems like lazy casting,’ he told Variety. ‘But then wiser heads prevailed, and I could see what everyone was saying.
‘He was very much alive. He comes into the room with great confidence, and he’s got a zest for life.’
Kate is currently starring in Lee’s film, which sees her strip down to an empowering silent scene at the helm of a female director.
“It’s really different, mostly because we automatically know that if we’re showing Lee naked or partially clothed, there’s a requirement,” Winslet said. Metro.co.uk.
Winslet added: “So making a story about a woman as a woman is a great privilege and, of course, the energy that can be put into it, the femininity that I think, Lee Miller redefines what femininity is and this is 80 years ago.
“For him it’s endurance, courage and compassion and strength, and things that are important to us today in this ever-changing culture and I just love what he did, what he saw, the courage he had and this special. the decade of her life that we covered in the film I think it was the year when she really came to her truest self and never looked back.’
