Julie Chrisley has been sick in prison.
In June, an appeals court overturned Julie Chrisley’s conviction. But he’s not out of the woods – or prison – yet.
Although Chrisley knows best Todd and Julie didn’t endear themselves to fans, many of whom were nauseated by their long sentences for non-violent offenses.
Julie has grown more than queasy. The appalling conditions of even a “good” federal prison leave him sick – and he’s far from alone.
Julie Chrisley has been sick in prison
Since Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley reported to their respective prisons to serve their sentences in early 2023, adult daughter Savannah Chrisley has been a lawyer outside.
Obviously, they have a legal team to handle appeals. And he’s making headway — progress that the family feared might be impossible.
However, it was mainly through Savannah, which fell Chrisley knows best The stars have also shed light on the injustice that plagues our carceral system. Most of them focus on bad, blameless, and entirely preventable situations in prison itself.
Last spring, an appeals court overturned Julie’s conviction — but it wasn’t convinced. The judge ordered him to serve time served, meaning (unless he receives a sentence of only a year and a half) he has not been released from prison.
Meanwhile, Todd is still serving a 10-year sentence.
But in the latest episode of Savannah Chrisley’s Unlock podcast, he opened up about how unbearable the situation of Julie Chrisley at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Kentucky has become for her mother.
Savannah Chrisley recalls the prison conditions her mother faced
“… In the visiting room, luckily there is air conditioning, but outside the visiting room, there is zero air conditioning,” said Savannah. “And the heat index was (between) 105 and 110 (degrees).”
He explained: “And this is where the mother lives, in such conditions without air and it can be 100 degrees inside the building.”
Savannah then reported what her mother had said. “He literally said he was physically sick from the heat,” she said.
Julie Chrisley wasn’t the only one suffering. Savannah explains that this, like other systemic problems, affects many people.
“So you have these women who are suffering from heat exhaustion and they’re cool,” he detailed.
“But, you know, there’s a service dog (at the same facility) that has air conditioning…nothing fits me,” Julie said. “This is beyond inhumane. …”
Everyone has a right to living conditions
As human rights experts and countless prison reformers have pointed out, keeping prisoners alive – whether they are guilty or innocent, whether they are convicted of fraud or murder – is not a fair public behavior.
Savannah recounted how her mother’s relief and excitement at being in the air conditioning for the visit brought home. Something that he and almost everyone in the US took grated there, for his mother, a rare treat.
“Unfortunately for these men and women this is not (normal) and it’s really hard to hear their struggles,” Savannah said. “The whole prison system is very broken, not only in the father’s place, but also in the mother’s.”
As always, Todd and Julie are not sympathetic the victim Based on his behavior in Chrisley knows best and most of his actions are off camera, he doesn’t look good.
But even a bad person can receive a great punishment. And even the lowest scum on the planet deserves a livable situation if they have to end up behind bars.
Imprisonment as punishment. It should not amount to torture. The conditions described by Savannah are clear violations of human rights – including, of course, people who have not committed crimes and do not belong in prison.
