First love, then marriage, then divorce and Josh Hall being kicked off the HGTV show.
Well, to be fair, it’s Christina Hall’s franchise… but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
In early July 2024, Christina and Josh, DIY reality lovers, announced that they were ending their marriage. If the people who love them hope it will be an amicable split, the details in the divorce docs and the accompanying news more than prove them wrong.
Less than a week after the divorce announcement, Josh lost his job with Christina on his upcoming HGTV show which is currently in production.
That means things can get ugly!
Josh Hall Reportedly Cut From Upcoming HGTV Show ‘The Flip Off’
Christina Hall isn’t letting her divorce from Joshua Hall get in the way of her new HGTV series.
For years, Christina has made her living as the host of an HGTV series and she’s not going to let a little thing like a divorce stop her from doing just that.
Her news show, The Flip Off, set to premiere in 2025. He and Josh were meant to co-host together, along with his first ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and his wife, Heather Rae El Moussa.
Awkward? Maybe – but it’s about to get worse as reports suggest Josh has been kicked out. “They are in production The Flip Off without Josh,” a source told the exclusive Us Weekly. “They’re moving forward with the show without him.”
Now, it should be known that Josh has filmed at least a few episodes, as he shared a clip on Instagram. They also still get promo announcements embedded on their pages. So, he might want her out, but it doesn’t seem that easy.
The Writing is on the Wall
While the news of the breakup surprised fans, those closest to them said the decision was not “sudden”, as the couple had “been together for a while”.
What surprised everyone was the request submitted by Josh when he asked for the dissolution of the marriage. Citing irreconcilable differences (uncertain!), Joshua is asking the court for all property rights before he and Christina get married in 2022.
It seems far-fetched, but it also suggests that he and Christina don’t have a prenup about it.
Which makes this next bit even more interesting. In the document, Josh also asked the court to order an equal division of the community property. While they list things like their home in Newport Beach, CA, they also list the rights to Discovery and HGTV shows they developed, produced or contracted during their marriage.
In theory, that should include the future The Flip Off series.
So whether he appears on the show or not, he is angling to get paid.
Christina’s Next Step
So where does that leave Christina?
Well, first, he wants us all to go back to refer him to Christina Haak. (She requested that her last name be restored in her divorce file.)
However, it is not clear if Christina is going to fight Josh for half of the royalties for the upcoming show. In his filing, he said he would provide the court with a separate list of property assets and liabilities at a later date.
Therefore, now he has decided that he will work again with his first ex-husband. But even before the divorce deal was finalized, it sounds like he is more careful to film full time with Josh than Tarek.
“We’re working together just, like, hand in hand and find what’s dynamic and looks like,” she said Us Weekly in July 2023 about a project with her ex-husband Tarek El Moussa and her husband, and her new ex, Josh.
Even then, given her response, it sounds like there is a red flag about their relationship.
“I mean, it’s not easy working with a couple, so we’re really finding it. I’m used to being the boss of everything, especially in terms of design. It’s a new dynamic for us and it’s going to be interesting how it unfolds.
Oh it played out! And Josh was kicked out! So, guess he’s the boss, huh?!
