actor Jerry Ferrara admit it is “hard not to geek out” when acting together Jamie-Lynn Sigler at Entourage.
“I remember jokes like, ‘There’s no way Turtle is going to be able to get a girl like Jamie-Lynn,'” Ferrara, 44, said. Us Weekly specially ahead of Entourage 20 years on Thursday, July 18. Entourage is. This is extreme. Men shouldn’t be in that kind of situation.”
Ferrara plays the role of Turtle, his best friend Adrian Grenier‘s Vinny Chase, for all eight seasons of Entourage, which ran on HBO from 2004 to 2011. During the early years of his show, Turtle was the backbone of his comedic gang – who always went for women way out of his league. During the show’s fifth season, Turtle sits next to Sigler on a plane and the two hit it off. The on-air hookup was a minor plot line before Turtle started dating Sigler. (Ferrara and Sigler also date off camera as well.)
“I know him a little bit over the years. I met him in New York, then he lives in LA so we’re not like best friends,” Ferrara said. us about his relationship with Sigler. “We know each other, so we’re comfortable. She’s a great actress and doesn’t like playing this heightened version of herself.
Entourage famously full of celebrity cameos in every episode. Ferrara notes that what “always works well” are the stars who “like to make fun of themselves or just play this ridiculous version.”
Sigler was “down for everything,” he recalls. βIt’s amazing. Sopranos it’s my favorite show.β
And yes, she and Sigler are still in touch today β thanks to social media.
For Entouragee fans, Turtle’s relationship with Sigler was a major turning point for the character. It also allows viewers to learn his name for the first time. Until season 5, Ferrara was simply referred to as “Turtle” on screen. However, he tells Sigler that his ruler’s name is Sal.
According to Ferarra, the show’s creator and performer Doug Ellin made a mystery around Turtle’s real name which was “running joke” on the set.
“I used to ask him in season 2 or 3. I was like, ‘Hey, Turtle’s real name, what am I going to say?’ And he was like, ‘We’re going to do season 7,’ or whatever he said,” Ferrara said. us. “I don’t think we’ll make it to season 7.”
When Turtle’s real name was revealed, Ellin did “one of the coolest things” for Ferrara.
“I will love the man forever,” the actor said us. “One of my best friends growing up in Brooklyn was named Sal. He died very young at 23 years old. β¦ Troupe isn’t the kind of show you have to break away from to be someone else. In my opinion, this is playing a version of my friend Sal.
Ferrara’s last friend was someone who had “the love of this life,” he said us. “They don’t care what kind of trouble we get into as long as we’re having fun. That’s what I feel like as a Turtle.”
Ellin knew about Ferrara.
“They never told me that they did the episode (when) the turtle got a name. I only got the script one day,” said the actor. “I read the script and I got to that part, and I froze. I dropped the script, and I lost my breath because he did it without me really asking and didn’t even tell me. Until today. it’s like the most special thing for me and my friends who have grown up.
This allows for a full circle moment with Sigler’s story line.
“(It’s) really special that comes with her character,” he concluded. “That’s the most vulnerable she’s ever shown, so I think that’s really cool.”
